Connecticut Genealogies #1, 1600s-1800s, page111, New London Probate Journal, V1, page 131. Abigail married (1) Robert Wade on 11 Mar 1690/1691 in Norwich, CT. Robert was born in England. He died 24,25 before 3 Sep 1696 in Windham, CT. These notes on Robert Wade were supplied to me by Jerilyn Marshall onapril 19, 2003: "A Robert Wade was listed as a passenger to St. Christopher's, embarkingon the ship Paul of London, 3 April 1635. The ship embarked fromgravesend. It is unknown whether or not this is the same Robert Wade.He was listed as age 35, so was one of the older men on the vessel. Mostwere in their 20s. There was a Phillipp Jennings on board as well(related to Jonathan Ginnings who administered estate of Robert Wade in1696?). The list was printed in the NEHGR, Vol. 14 (Oct. 1860), p. 349. Robert Wade divorced his wife (named Joan, Joanna, Jemima, or Jane) in1657. She was apparently living in England at the time. This was thesecond divorce granted in the colony of Connecticut (Photocopied pagefrom unknown source, sent to me by Marge Wilcox; see also Families ofearly Hartford, Connecticut, p. 615). Robert is listed as one of the first settlers of Norwich, Connecticut, in1660. This listing is on the Uncas Monument in Norwich. A list of thenames was published in the NEHGR Vol. 1 (Oct. 1847), p. 315. In 1696 the inventory of the estate of Robert Wade of Windham wasexhibited in Hartford District probate court by Peter Cross.Administration of the estate was granted to Peter Cross and JonathanGinnings. Lt. John Fitch and Ensign Crane were appointed to assist inmanagement of the estate. Peter Cross apparently married Robert'swidow. Torrey says her name was Mary, not Abijah (p. 194). Page 6

In a will dated 2 Aug 1648, Leonard Chester of Wethersfield referred tohis "father Wade" in England. It would be worth investigating whetherleonard Chester was related to Robert Wade of Hartford. Jehiel Rice (Nathaniel Roys, Robert, Samuel, Robert) was born on 11 Feb 1722/1723 in Wallingford, CT. He died in 1787 in Wallingford, CT per probate record LDS microfilm #006045. Two reasons we believe Jehiel and Rebecca are parents of Samuel b c 1762 and Patty b 15 Apr 1771 and possibly Cynthia b 1764 living in Steuben Co, NY, early 1800's: 1st item - Elena Stebbins(elena@tricountyi.net), descendant of Maria Rice, daughter of son Stephen (first white child born Addison 1791 to Samuel and Lucretia), has a family tree drawn on a very old brown newspaper wrapper addressed to Wm Jordan, husband of Maria Rice, which says parents of Samuel Brown Rice b c 1762 were Harvey Rice and Rebecca Brown. The name Jehiel was nicknamed Heilly, which could be heard as Harvey. 2nd item - September 2002 descendant Kerry Rice received results of his participation in the Edmund Rice DNA Testing Project, found at http://www.widomaker.com/~gwk/era/haplotype.htm Kerry is in a group decended from Robert Royce (?-1676) of New London, CT. Kerry is sample number 3758....... Kerry (opiewan@zoominternet.net) Kerry is an exact match with Peter Rice whose ancestors are Norman, Francis, William, Amos, Benajah, Amos, Jacob, Samuel, Robert Royce. Jehiel's ancestors were Nathaniel, Robert, Samuel, Robert of New London, CT Also on the 1790 Census, Cheshire, CT there is Rebecca Rice and 2 females. Probably one female Rebecca, one female Patty. Jehiel married Rebecca Brown on 2 Oct 1746 in Wallingford, New Haven, CT perwallingford church records. Rebecca was born on 5 May 1728 in Wallingford, CT. She died on 14 Sep 1813 in Granby, CT per Hartford Courant Oct 12, 1813, Ct MirrorOct 18, Ct Herald Oct 19 in Hale Collection. Looking at the NY Census for Washington County New York-FortAnn-suggests that Samuel Rice was a son of David Rice. David was in1790 US Census with a boy Samuel's age. Also, in 1810 Census Samuelshows up 6 houses away with a son and wife. Maybe Samuel and PollyPorter Rice and his son, David Rice. What got me started on Fort Annwas the fact that Samuel sold some land in Riceville to David Rice.Could have been his dad, a brother David or his son David. A David Ricewas born in 1780 and married a Mary. They lived in Fort Ann and may havebeen Samuel's brother. This is pretty speculative but I think a link tofort Ann exists-now who was the David that Samuel sold land to. Furtherresearch suggests it was his brother David because this is the only Davidthat was of the correct age to buy land in 1839. Samuel's father was deadin 1839, David's son David was only 19 and Samuel's son, David lived incrawford County, PA not Washington County, NY. I have some cemeteryrecords for David and Mary Rice plus their kids in Fort Ann. Age wouldbe correct for brother of Samuel but not father. David is tooyoung-hence my thought that there is an older David-maybe this older manactually bought some land from Samuel-a way to distribute some money. Inoted a John Porter lived close to David Rice in the 1800 Census andhence maybe this is how Samuel and Polly met-close neighbors maybe. Alsoa Thomas Kilmer lived near David Rice in 1830 Census-Maybe this is EuniceKilmer's father. Einice Kilmer was Samuel's son David's wife. 2. Stephen Rice 100 (David, Moses, John, Jonathan, Robert) was born on 4 Apr 1755 in Willington CT. a. The 1790 Federal Census for Tyringham, MA showed a Stephen Rice(1male over 16, 1 male under 16 and four females. The reason I mentionthis is that Tyringhma, MA seemed to be a popular stopping place for themigration of Royce/Rice to the west. David Rice married Eunice Fullerin Tyringham on Oct 26, 1773, Amos Rice was also listed in this same1790 Federal Census in Tyringhma with 1 male over 16, 5 males unde 16 and3 females. Amos Rice married a Cybel Calkin on Dec 20, 1774 intyringham, MA. This is by no mens proof of much other than this STephenmay be the Stephen Rice that I am researching. Stephen married Mary Owen 101 daughter of Eleazer Owen and Jerusha Russ on 6 Aug 1777 in Willington, CT. Mary was born on 13 Feb 1751/1752. Page 22

Stephen and Mary had the following children: 223 F i. Betsey Rice was born 102 on 10 May 1790 in Tyringham, MA. 224 M ii. Abel Rice 103 was born on 26 Feb 1788. 225 F iii. I noted that Stephen Royce married Mary Owens August 6, 1777. TheOwens and Royce/Rices lived apparently close and these marriages may havebeen result of this not surprisingly. b. I noted that one of Lydia's and Daniel's children was born intyringham, MA. Lydia's brother David Royce married Eunice Fuller, intyringham, MA in 1773. This may have been common migration path forrice/royce as they moved to upstate NY and then further west. c.
