Seller Insight Situated in a glorious rural location, not far from the thriving market town of Spalding is Dorcette House, an extremely attractive and very spacious family home. It was a combination of factors that originally attracted my wife and I to this property; for us it ticked a lot of boxes, says Ali. Firstly we were keen to have an indoor swimming pool, and secondly I needed to be able to work from home, so the fact that we were able to convert part of the annex building into a home office was a real plus. We also wanted to be in a convenient yet peaceful location, and here we re surrounded by countryside and yet we can walk into the village, and Spalding is just a few minutes away by car. The previous owner of the house was a developer, and he did an excellent job of extending the property, says Christine. All the work has been done extremely sympathetically, so it doesn t feel higgledy-piggledy. The whole house just flows really nicely, so it s very comfortable to live in and the new additions are very much in keeping with the original part of the property, which dates back to the 1700s. Both the swimming pool room and the conservatory that links it to the main house have doors that open out onto a huge decked terrace, says Ali, and at the very end we have a log cabin that houses the hot tub. In terms of leisure facilities, I don t think we could ask for much more. And the garden itself is a lovely big open space, and very safe and secure for children, adds Christine. When our daughter was young she used to bring her horse up here and put jumps up on the lawn. The outside space is definitely a feature of the house that we ve thoroughly enjoyed. Christine s favourite part of the house is the snug, particularly in winter because it s a very cosy space, says Ali, but I don t think I could single out one particular room. The house as a whole is comfortable and wonderful for entertaining; for us it has been ideal. I think it s the feeling of peace and seclusion combined with accessibility that we have loved most about the location, says Ali. It s actually quicker to get into Peterborough from here than if we lived in the centre of Spalding. As well as the acre that the house sits on we also have 0.2 of an acre just across the road, says Ali. We generally use it as extra parking if we have a party or guests to stay. This has been a lovely family home, and if we could pick it up and take it with us we wouldn t hesitate, says Christine. It s spacious and comfortable, and it s been a fabulous house to entertain in, adds Ali. I think we ll both be sad to leave.
