SCOTTISH ACCOMMODATION BAROMETER REPORT: DECEMBER 2017/2016 REPORT - HOTELS 1.0 INTRODUCTION DECEMBER 2017/2016 Welcome to the VisitScotland Scottish Accommodation Barometer covering December 2017 and benchmarking against December 2016. The Barometer reviews Accommodation performance throughout Scotland, highlighting trends across various sectors and categories of the industry. This Barometer offers a snapshot of accommodation performance based on participating providers. Comments and feedback should be directed to Marina Martinolli (Tel: 0141 331 8400 or via E-mail: mma4@gcu.ac.uk). 2.0 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY DECEMBER 2017 Serviced Accommodation properties for the month of December 2017 experienced a marginal increase of 0.50% compared with December 2016 when comparing room occupancy rates. Occupancy rates, as expected, continued to decrease from previous months. December occupancy rates highlighted seasonal variations between the urban centres of Glasgow and Edinburgh, where a greater number of visitors were attracted by Christmas shopping and winter/new Year events compared with the more remote and inaccessible rural locations. The Hotel sector performed marginally better than the Guest House/B&B sector. December saw an increase of 1.8% in visits numbers within the visitor attraction sector comparing December 2017 with December 2016.
