1 SCOTTISH ACCOMMODATION BAROMETER REPORT: MARCH 2018/2017 REPORT - GUEST HOUSE, B&BS 1.0 INTRODUCTION MARCH 2018/2017 Welcome to the VisitScotland Scottish Accommodation Barometer covering March 2018 and benchmarking against March The Barometer reviews Accommodation performance throughout Scotland, highlighting trends across various sectors and categories of the industry. This Barometer offers a snapshot of accommodation performance based on participating providers. Comments and feedback should be directed to Marina Martinolli (Tel: or via mma4@gcu.ac.uk). 2.0 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY MARCH 2018 Serviced Accommodation properties for the month of March 2018 experienced an increase of 8.44% comparing percentage room occupancy rates with March March occupancy rates increased from previous months The Hotel sector performed marginally better than the Guest House/B&B sector, although both changes were marginal. Severe weather conditions impacted on all accommodation sectors during the month of March March 2018 saw a decrease of 0.2% in visits numbers within the visitor attraction sector comparing March 2018 with March Category Room Occupancy Mar-18 Mar-17 %Change Jan-Mar18 Jan-Mar17 %Change ALL SERVICED ACCOMMODATION 62.86% 54.42% 8.44% 58.81% 49.39% 9.42% Category Bed Occupancy Mar-18 Mar-17 %Change Jan-Mar18 Jan-Mar17 %Change ALL SERVICED ACCOMMODATION 49.13% 38.80% 10.33% 45.91% 35.10% 10.81% The Revenue per available occupied room for March 2018 was compared with in March This figure is based solely on accommodation providers who provided financial information for either March 2018 and/or RevPAR MARCH 2018/2017 Room - Average RevPAR ( ) Mar-18 Mar-17 ALL SERVICED ACCOMMODATION SERVICED ACCOMMODATION - GUEST HOUSE, B&BS 3.1 Performance by Guest House, B&B Category March 2018/2017 In the Guest House, B&B sector, the room occupancy rate for the period March 2017 was 29.72% when compared to data from the previous year of 30.69% occupancy rate; this shows a decrease of -0.97%. Percentage room occupancy and bed occupancy rates for Guest House, B&Bs in Kingdom of Fife and ALLFV were the highest in March Operators in Coastal, Other Urban Areas; and properties charging a tariff of fared best in room occupancy rates in March The table below shows the Room Occupancy rate recorded for March 2018/2017 as well as the % change calculation for the Guest House, B&B sector Category Room Occupancy Mar-18 Mar-17 %Change Jan-Mar18 Jan-Mar17 %Change Guest House, B&Bs 29.72% 30.69% -0.97% 24.62% 27.55% -2.93% In the Guest House, B&B sector, the bed occupancy rate for the period March 2017 was 23.33% when compared to data from the previous year of 20.61% occupancy rate; this shows an increase of 2.72%.
