Rev. John Edwards changed his surname to Baghot De La Bere. From Gentleman s Magazine Vol XCI Jul-Dec 1821 p145: The direct male line of this venerable family failing in Kinard de la Bere, esq. in 1733, he devised this manor and estate to his nephew, William Baghott, of Prestbury, esq. who, in pursuance of his uncle's will, assumed the surname and arms of De la Bere, and was succeeded by his eldest son, since deceased. Kinard Baghot de la Bere studied engineering under Brunel before undertaking projects in South America and Ireland. He retired from engineering to pursue agriculture. His principal focus in agriculture was poultry and he wrote: To the Farmers and Cottagers of Great Britain How the French Make Fowls Pay, The New Poultry Guide for British Farmers and Others A Treatise on Manure as food for plants and fertilization of the soil... With a system of potato culture, etc Stable Economy. Showing how to keep a horse at a cost of 10 to 12 a-year... With an essay on the general management of the milch goat, etc. With illustrations. He discovered the use of water glass (sodium metasilicate) as a preservative for eggs. From 1881 to 1904 he lived at Burbage Hall (Leics) before moving to Bishops Stortford and then Bath. From The British Medical Journal of 24 Jan 1925, p194: DEATHS IN THE SERVICES. Lieut.-Colonel Louis William Swabey, R.A.M.C. (ret.), died at Bath on January 10th, aged 68. He was born in Canada, and was the son of the late Rev. Henry Birchfield Swabey. He was educated at St. George's, and took the M.R.C.S. in 1879 and the L.R.C.P.Ed. in 1880. He entered the army as surgeon in February 5th, 1881, became lieutenant-colonel after twenty years' service and retired on February 5th, 1911. He served in the Egyptian war of 1882, receiving the medal and the Khedive's bronze star, and in the Sudan campaign of 1885 at Suakin, receiving a clasp.
