It was built in the 1960 s to control flooding, completed in 1969. The Lake soon became a site for public recreation. Each year, Lake Tobesofkee holds several major events including Fourth of July Sparks over the Parks, Annual Holiday Boat Parade and the Mainly Marathons. Located three miles from Interstate 475, Lake Tobesofkee is a year-round recreation area covering nearly 1,800 acres with 35 miles of shoreline. Lake Tobesofkee Recreation Park consists of three public parks, Sandy Beach, Claystone and Arrowhead. The water park is located in Sandy Beach Park. Parks are staffed and have park rangers. Lake Tobesofkee offers fishing, camping, boating, picnicking and swimming from one of the three white sand beaches. Each Park features covered picnic pavilions, clean and well maintained grounds and ample restroom facilities. Claystone and Sandy Beach Parks have large beaches with children s playgrounds, picnic tables and barbeque grills. The Beaches are topped with pure, white sand during the summer season. Each beach is staffed with lifeguards. Sandy Beach has two (2) large picnic pavilions. Claystone has five (5) picnic pavilions and one enclosed climate controlled pavilion, available for rental, with view of the beach and lake. Claystone is located adjacent to a full service marina and lake-view restaurant. Claystone Park offers 46 spacious paved campsites that can accommodate tent or RV campers equipped with electricity (50 amp), water hookups, cable, sewage and a dump station. The comfort station has hot showers and coin operated washers and dryers. Claystone also has a butterfly garden and an 18 hole Disc Golf Course. Arrowhead Park offers 58 paved campsites that can accommodate tent or RV campers. It has 13 miles of single track mountain biking trails. Campground offers full electrical (30 amp) and water hook-ups, as well as disposal stations for sanitary purposes. Lakefront or lake view sites are available along with boat ramps, clean bath facilities, coin operated laundries and a full-time staff of park rangers. The campground also offers permanent charcoal grills and picnic tables for campers.
