Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Headquarters The firm won the limited design competition for the ministry building with a solution that draws on a generalized Islamic style. The entrance is intentionally heavyweight and makes reference to religious architecture using wall mounted plaques carrying religious texts. The mosque is to the front of the building. Architecture in the Islamic Environment -5 WEEK 27 Council Chamber for the Government of Oman The firm was commissioned by the Government of Oman to carry out fast track design of the new Assembly Chamber in order to achieve a twenty seven week handover from completion of the design brief to occupation. This was achieved. The design draws from a traditional general Islamic aesthetic, anchoring open arched colonnades with solid raised corner towers. The dimensions of the building are close to those of a full size football pitch. The firm won a British Consultants of The Year Award for the project. Architecture in the Islamic Environment -6 Governorate of Muscat Headquarters, Al Bustan Huckle and Partners won the design competition for this building which completed in June 2005. The building is located on a rocky site adjacent to a wadi and provides high quality contemporary architecture within an Islamic environment whilst reflecting historic Omani traditions of building. Deputy Prime Minister s Offices, Royal Estates - Muscat The design solution aims to provide an innovative contemporary approach to historic Omani architecture in an urban setting and offers a sensitive, well mannered and neighbourly design solution. Architecture in the Islamic Environment -7 Shell Development Oman Office Building Mina Al Fahal Having worked with Shell Markets in Oman over many years Huckle and Partners were commissioned to design new offices for Shell Development Oman. The design follows stringent environmental criteria. The building was completed in 2009 Ministry of Legal Affairs Headquarters Airport Heights A move to new Headquarters at Airport Heights from long established offices at Al Khuwair prompted an architectural design competition in which Huckle and Partners were successful. The building was completed in 2012. Ministry of Manpower Headquarters Airport Heights In order to centralise a large number of satellite offices in Ruwi area a design competition was held to combine all departments totaling about 1300 staff into a single new ministry building at Airport Heights. Architecture in the Islamic Environment -9 The private sitting out terrace The British Ambassador s residence The design is traditional in approach, combining elements of British architecture with a contemporary interpretation of traditional Arabic architectural detail to create interplay between the simple white masking of the exterior with the more intricate joinery work to the balconies and bay windows, and the deep shaded terracing on the seaward face. Architecture in the Islamic Environment -10 Trader Vic s restaurant Entrance Atrium Theme Pool Hotel Inter-Continental Muscat - Renovation Huckle and Partners was commissioned to carry out renovation work for the Hotel Inter- Continental Muscat. The entrance approach roads redesigned with ramps and a new two level Porte Cohere, providing more parking spaces. The new Trader Vic s Restaurant facing the new Theme Pool next to the beach.
