Notes for Henry Truxton Campbell: [Substantial information on Henry Truxton descendants provided by Freeda Campbell] Relocated to what is now West Virginia in 1851 THE COMPENDIUM OF AMERICAN GENEALOGY st ates that Henry, along with his son John Wesley Campbell, served in the 11th WVa Regiment during the Civil War (I prefer to refer to this debacle as the War of Southern Secession, as this conflict was by no means CIVIL). Henry T. Campbell and his son, John Wesley Campbell served in Company G, 11th West Virginia Infantry. Henry, a private, mustered into Company G, October 6, 1862 (3 years service) at the age of 44. John W. Campbell mustered in the same regiment May 23, 1862 (before his dad), for three years service at the age of 20. The bulk of this regiment was mustered in at Coalsmouth,Kanawha County. This Company represented the regiment that fought at Cloyd's Mountain, Lynchburg Campaign, Shenandoah Campaign, the siege at Petersburg (1865) and the Appomattox Campaign, present at Lee's surrender. In fact, they were the portion of the Army that fronted the rebels causing surrender.
