GRIFFITH, A M "Don", 75, of Buchanan, Ga. passed away on Thursday, May 19, 1949 at 5 a.m. He was born in Paulding County on September 19, 1873, but had lived in Buchanan since he was 15 years old. He had been a member of Buchanan Baptist Church for 40 plus years. He taught school for 11 years and carried the mail on RFD from Buchanan for 32 years, retiring 12 years ago. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, the former Miss Kitty Head. Other survivors (relationship not given) include, Elizabeth Griffith, Atlanta & Buchanan, Dr. J E Griffith, Rockmart, R B Griffith, Orlando, Fla., J F Griffith, Buchanan, Ralph L Griffith, Buchanan, Mrs. Juluis Mize, Cedartown and eight grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church, Buchanan on Friday, May 20, 1949 at 3 p.m. with R! ev. M F Roberts from Decatur, Ga. and former pastor of the Buchanan Ch urch officiating. Internment was at Buchanan Cemetery. Pallbearers were Price Edwards, Commondore Stewart, Herchel Mize, Henry Edwards, Arlin Bullard, Albert Bullard, John F Edwards and Hershel Reid. He was a beef cattle and poultry farmer, past president of the Georgia Cattleman's Association and the Haralson County Cattleman's Association, and past director of the National Beef Board and the West Georgia Beef Checkoff, as well as a Master 4-H'er and a 4-H volunteer. In 1974 he received a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Georgia, where he was a linebacker with the Bulldogs football team and a member of the Letterman's Club. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. today at Buchanan United Methodist Church with the Revs. Kendra Grimes and Claude McBride officiating. Burial will be in Buchanan City Cemetery, followed by a gathering at his farm. Survivors, in addition to his parents, include two daughters, Kersha Griffith and Kiley Griffith, both of Buchanan; two brothers, Jim Griffith, Macon, and Joe Griffith, Buchanan; and a special friend, Belita Griffith, Tallapoosa.
