Architectural Renderings The following is intended to provide a preview of renovations and additions planned for McKinney High School. The final appearance of the campus after construction may vary slightly from these depictions.
Front Entrance The front entrance and circle driveway features all new construction and will serve as the primary student dropoff/pickup location. Tall porch coverings, columns, seating areas and green spaces are included, maintaining images of the iconic porch area that characterizes the current campus. Estimated completion date: March, 2013
Entry Hallway The front doors open to the main entry hallway. The reception area and registration office is located to the right. A stairwell connecting to the second level is on the left. The campus clinic is also located in this area. The hall features large spaces to display recognitions and trophies earned by MHS students. Estimated completion date: March, 2013
Student Commons Walking through the entry hallway and turning right will reveal the student commons. This combination of new construction and renovation provides space to mingle while waiting for classes, concerts, or gym events to begin. Features of this are include large display cases, varied seating options, and meeting areas for clubs and groups to utilize after school hours. The cafeteria entrance is just visible on the far right. Estimated completion date: March, 2013
Cafeteria The renovated cafeteria features a more rectangular shape with a stage area located on the south end. Additional food service lines are included yielding more of a food court experience. The room has only two levels with additional floor space provided by capturing space from the courtyard located in back of the building. Estimated completion date: August, 2013
Cafeteria Viewed from the opposite side of the cafeteria, the stage area is visible on the opposite side. Not shown are moveable walls to close off the glass wall and create a more traditional stage area. Spotlighting is incorporated to facilitate meetings and performances. Rear Entrance Exiting the building at the north end of the cafeteria will reveal the renovated rear porch area. This area is accessed via the rear driveway and serves as the loading zone for school buses. Though smaller, a courtyard remains in this area with significant covering to protect against rain. Career and Technology Entrance This new entrance will be added off the rear drive, replacing parking areas located between the building and the softball field. This new wing of classrooms will increase the ability of MHS Career and Technology programs to provide storefront environments for students to work and learn. Customers will be able to park and access cosmetology and other classrooms via this entrance. Estimated completion date: August, 2013
Library Easily accessible through the Career and Technology entrance is the new Library. Students will have various places to read, study, research, and collaborate in this area. The library will include study tables and comfortable reading areas. Multilevel design allows students in upper hll hallways to overlook the lb library area. Estimated completion date: August, 2013
Flex Spaces Hallway renovations provide spaces designed to allow students to work together in small groups. Open areas as pictured here or other, fully enclosed rooms with glass walls are located throughout the hallways. Flex spaces will become available lbl for use periodically beginning August 2012 through December 2013.
Classrooms Renovations provide a more openness both inside and outside the classrooms. In addition to high visibility, the classrooms will utilize a specially textured wall paint that allows an entire wall to serve as a dry erase surface. Classrooms will also include smart board technology. New classrooms will become available for use periodically beginning August 2012 through December 2013.
Staff Childcare Facility MISD high schools currently house childcare facilities for MISD staff. The current library space will be renovated to accommodate an expanded child care program. The space will include classrooms to support students enrolled in MHS child development and ready, set, teach programs. A dd dedicated ddriveway will service this area. Campus Site Plan An overhead view of the campus defines external changes and additions to the campus. Areas shaded gray denote current footprint of the building. Yellow shading indicates additions planned for this current renovation project. Gold shading indicates an addition (including new auditorium) planned dfor a future project.
Campus Site Plan Other items to note include changes to the pickup/dropoff drive (former circle drive), additional student, staff, and event parking, new band practice space, and a pedestrian walkway that allows students and visitors to walk safely between the parking lot and the building.
