THE OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT AWARD This evening, at the Law School Recognition Exercises, the University of Minnesota has the distinct privilege of presenting the University's Outstanding Achievement Award to one of its distinguished graduates, a respected lawyer and business leader, and a servant of the community in politics, the arts, health and education. He symbolizes the qualities of integrity, leadership, and service to mankind which the award represents. The Board of Regents of the University of Minnesota authorized the establishment of the Outstanding Achievement Award in 1947. This award includes an engraved gold medal and an individually prepared certificate citing the distinguished individual for his signal accomplishments and achievements. Nominations for Outstanding Achievement Awards are made by faculty members, departments, and colleges of the University to the University Senate Honors Committee. The Honors Committee makes its nominations from this list to the Administrative Committee of the University Senate and, upon approval of this committee, to the Board of Regents. The awards may be conferred only upon former students of the University who have attained the highest distinction in their chosen fields. These men and women are looked upon as individuals who have reached the pinnacle of out standing achievement. Such a man is John S. Pillsbury, Jr.
