Notes for Timothy Putnam Barker: Timothy came to Wisconsin Territory with his parents and after two years returned to New York to complete his education at the College of Brockport. He graduated in 1844 and returned to Wisconsin to become the first township superintendent of schools for the town of Sugar Creek. His obituary, written by the Rev. D. Powell, stated that Timothy became a christian about 1841 or 1842 and was baptized by the Elder Stephen Batherick. He united with the Free Will Baptist Church. A letter of transfer dated 21 April 1844 was brought to Wisconsin, where he united with the Heart Prairie Free Will Baptist Church of Heart Prairie; transferred to Johnstown Church in 1864 and remained a member there until his death. The obituary also told that he was a man of decided and positive convictions, active in social and moral reforms of the day. A man active and enterprising in business, honest in his dealings, truly hospitable and generous to the needy. He was town clerk in 1864 and Associate supervisor in 1875 for Sugar Creek.
