Welcome to the PAD! 1. Background The migration of Colombians abroad regardless of the reasons that have been generated, has played particularly in the last decade to its professionals. Colombian Universities are training talented professionals that increasingly have had the opportunity to practice their profession outside the territory. Professionals and specifically the architects have become a true export product while bringing great benefits to the Colombian society. Despite the harsh conditions and restrictions of all kinds to settle and work, the diaspora of Colombian professionals has been very well received wherever it goes and shows its talent. Those who emigrated in the last decade have opened a way in this profession and have enabled today s Colombian professionals, with the support of past migrations, to have an important position in the global labor market. Architects and designers have been at the forefront in this process. The character acquired in their education in the schools of architecture has made them more aggressive and risky at the time to compete in their profession and casually it prepared them for today s global marketplace which has become extremely competitive amid the global economic crisis. With talent and dedication they have been able to join major architectural and design firms around the world acquiring jobs with higher responsibility, and in some cases some professionals have decided to open their own business. Most of the time the projects in which they re involved have positively affected the places that have embraced them as architects. Their main motivation has been the practice of architecture and professional achievement with unpretentious work required. The COLOMBIAN DIASPORA ARCHITECTURAL AWARDS 2012 with its motto a place to meet seeks to highlight the work of architects and designers while understanding that Colombia is not a territory but a social pact, a feeling, a way of being and doing that includes architecture.
