He had interests in both mercantile and maritime trades, lived in All Hallows Parish, Stamford where he was assessed for subsidy in 1546. Robert Johnson was a graduate and fellow of Jesus College, Oxford, canon of Windsor in 1572 and archdeacon of Leicester in 1591.
