Some STOCKDEN Daughters listed under their married names: (With their descendants where known). Sub-section 2 : AUSTRALIA Mary (1827) LESTER Mary was the daughter of George (1800) Stockden. In May 1854 she arrived in Geelong, Victoria, Australia on the sailing ship, 'America'. This was an 'assisted passage' and these are well documented. Mary went as a domestic servant for a Mrs Barry, of Newtown, Geelong, Victoria. The pay was 28..3..0 per annum (see # below) for a contract of three years. She then married Alfred Lester in 1856 and later went with him to the goldfields at Ballarat where her children were born. She must have helped her brother Robert (1824) to get an assisted passage as the comment on the records for Robert states, 'Gone to sister Mary Lester of Bathurst' (see * below). Mary's first son died aged two years, her second son was also named Alfred and he was born in the same year that the first child died. Note: * : Bathurst is some 209 Km west of Sydney, N S W. # : 28 pounds 3 shillings per annum. Hannah (1851) MAHER Very little is known of Hannah's life in Australia. She was born in Iron Acton on 6 June 1851 and went with her father, Robert (1824) Stockden, to Australia when he emigrated in 1857. When she was eighteen years old she married Martin Maher in 1869 probably in the Ballarat area. Caroline (1870) b Sebastopol, Victoria (recorded error - mothers name given as Stockton) William (1872-1905) b and d Ross Creek, Victoria. Mary Emma (1874) b Ross Creek, Victoria. Timothy (1876) b Ross Creek, Victoria. Martin (1879) b Ross Creek, Victoria. Ellen (1881) b Ross Creek, Victoria. James (1884) b Ross Creek, Victoria. Robert (1886) b Ross Creek, Victoria. Elizabeth Hannah (1860-1940) McINTOSH Elizabeth Hannah was born 19 May 1860 at Talywain, Mon., (see UK section). Her father, Wyatt Wall (1840) Stockden, took her to Australia in 1861. At Gympie on 12 October 1880, she married Donald McIntosh (1865-1923). (Donald's y.o.b. may be in error here, unlikely to have married at fifteen years of age!). James, known as Jim, a bachelor owning land and cattle near Kilkivan. William, known as Bill, married with a son and daughter, also had land and cattle in the Kilkivan district. George, married and worked in the Kilkivan district. John, known as Jack, married and worked in the Kilkivan area. Angus, a bachelor who lived in the Gympie area. Gilbert, known as 'Snow', who lived in Western Queensland. There was also two daughters, neither these nor Gilbert was known to my correspondent, George Williams (1912) Stockden. from Miss Helen Wegener of Toowoomba, Qld., Australia, provides the following details: The two daughters referred to above were named as : Emily, whose married name was Bower, had a daughter Eunice who married firstly to Ray Powell and had two sons Wayne and Gaven. She married secondly (f.n.u.) Stamp. Minnie Louise, who married John David Evan and had two children: Arthur and Irene. Regarding the sons named above; Gilbert may have married in Western Qld. George married an Alice (l.n.u.) William (d 7 Jan 1945) married Teresa Hogan, an Irish girl, and had two children: Maureen, who married (unknown) but had no children and Valentine, who married (unknown) and had two children. Angus (1893-1974) was born in Gympie, Qld. John (25 Mar 1895-8 Oct 1964) born in Gympie married Violet Rose Knight (31 Dec 1905-11 Apr 1958). They had several children of whom a daughter Doris (b 30 Aug 1927) born in Gympie, married Noel Joseph Hildred (b 11 Feb 1926). Of their four children, Donald George Hildred (b 15 Sep 1961) married Helen Wegener (b 21 Feb 1965) in February 1997. Emily Agnes (1876-1952) ALDER Emily was the eighth child and fifth daughter of Wyatt Wall (1840) Stockden. She married George Isaac Alder of Gympie in 1900. George was a tailor and professional fisherman in his lifetime. He died on 31 May 1948. Emily died 11 Jun 1952. Ten children were born to this marriage; both Reginald George Alder and Henry Nelson Alder (whose son Graham married Maria (l.n.u.)) died in Gympie. Emily and her husband lived on Mount Pleasant Road, now Hughes Terrace, Gympie. In 'The Gympie Times' dated Thursday, 26 May 1994, there was a report on a gathering of Alder descendants. Four surviving sisters in 1994 were Marjorie, Olive, Lillian and Evelyn, (quoted 'of the nine children' probably inferring - of the surviving children -; as my records show 10 children). This was the first family meeting for thirty years. Reuben Arthur (1904) married Ruby Plumber. Their children: Kevin; Ray and Valerie. Felix William (1905) b 1905 at Lennonville W.A., Elsie (?) married Jack Fitzgerald and had daughter: Valerie. Veronica (?) known as 'Bonnie' married Jim Fitzgerald (brother of Jack); Graham and Brian. Gladys (?) married Jim Moore, their children : Ray and Gwen. Mary (?) married Jack Murphy, had a son, Barry Raymond (?) married Edna Smart, with two sons, Raymond and Kevin. Elsie Ellen (1895) Bale Elsie, daughter of Elizabeth Stockden (née Curtain) was born at Sebastopol, Victoria, and she was married in 1913, to Charles Bale. Her birth cert is No: Sebastopol 24424 and her marriage cert is No: 2909. Her daughter: Maisie (1912) has birth cert No: Ballarat 26025 Elizabeth Mary (1899-1981) SHIMMON Elizabeth, known to all as 'Lizzie', was the eighth child and third daughter of George Thomas (1859) Stockden's second marriage. She married John Shimmon (1884-1941) in 1919. Elizabeth died on 23 May 1981and her husband John died on 27 August 1941. Elizabeth was born 24 March 1899 at Ballarat. Her birth cert is No: Ballarat 7556 and her marriage cert is No: Perth 239. Daughter Elizabeth Merle Dawson living in Perth helped us with these details. Elizabeth Merle (1919) b 23 July, married Arthur William Dawson on 18 May 1944. They have two children : Jennifer Ann (1953) b 26 January and David William (1954) b 7 March who married Sharyn Anne McInerney. They are divorced with no issue. William Joseph (1921) b 13 June, married Eunice May Rose. Their four children: Kenneth John (1943) b 11 July who married Karen (l.n.u.) and they have three children : Gary; Deborah and Lisa who is married to David Barr. Todd Gerard (? ) married Lian Shortee on 27 Nov 1993. Elsie Mary (1911) BONADEO Elsie Mary, fourth daughter of George Thomas (1859) Stockden's second marriage. She was born 5 November 1911 and married Gidio (Jack) Bonadeo (18 Jul 1907-22 Oct 1982) on 18 December 1937 in Perth. Gidio came from Sondria, Italy. Elsie's marriage cert is No: Perth 1999/1937. In October 1995, just after we met her in Perth (see photographs), Elsie moved south to Manjimup to live near her son. Manjimup is 240 Kms south of Perth. : Laurence John (1940) b 6 October who is a pharmacist and married to Elizabeth Potter on 11 January 1964. Their children: Mark John (1965) b 8 March at Manjimup, W.A. Brent Laurence (1967) b 18 October at Manjimup Andele Elizabeth (1970) b 25 February at Manjimup and Felicity Anne (1972) b 8 October at Manjimup. Eileen Agnes (1917) CAMPBELL Eileen, daughter of John Joseph (1890) Stockden, was born on 6 November 1917. She married on 27 June 1940, Ronald Campbell, (13 Dec 1913-7 Oct 1989) in Fremantle. Ronald was an army captain who was born in Meekatharra, W A. Their marriage cert is No: Fremantle 226/1940. Eileen now lives in a retirement village in Perth where we met her in 1995 (see photographs). Diane (1941-1989) who had twin daughters Sandra (1945) married Peter Cockroft has 4 children Desmond (? ) b 18 May? lives in Busselton, W.A. and married Rosalind Dedman, - they have three children Philip (1947) married Kay Ockleford Russell (1953) married Michelle Garland, no issue. Phyllis (1921?) MURPHY Phyllis was the first child of Felix William (1892) Stockden and Gertrude Winifred Mann. After Gertrude died in 1930, Phyllis was cared for by her uncle, Robert Thomas (1880) Stockden. No more is known of her apart from the fact that she married in 1945 Edward R Murphy and had a son named Wayne. Page 72
Kathleen Etta (1928) BAKER Kathleen (known to all as Kathy) was the third child of Felix William (1892) Stockden and his second wife Gertrude Winifred Mann. When Kathy, born 11 January 1928, was two years old her mother suffered a fall while doing her housework and sadly, was suffocated while unconscious. Kathy married Albert William Baker (19 Jun 1925-20 Mar 1988) on 3 May 1949. Faye Evelyne (1949) b 7 December married Nigel Alan Tilley (b 8 Oct 1949) at Perth on 29 Apr 1979. Their children: Bradley James (1974) b 18 May and Adam Scott (1978) b 6 January. Judith Allison (1955) b 25 December married Graeme Francis Rann (b 5 Jun 1956) at Perth on 13 Mar 1979. Jay William (1986) b 9 October and Kelsi Allison (1989) b 28 June. Caroline J (1944) MOULE Caroline, daughter of Raymond Mervyn John (1918) Stockden, was born 12 June 1944. She married in Bromley, Kent, U K on 31 July 1971 to Robert Moule (31 Aug 1949 UK). St Caths marriage ref : 5a1716. Their children: Alexis (1975) b 28 December Curtis (1978) b 10 March and Verity (1990) b 1 February. Pamela Lynette (1945) GULLAN Pamela, daughter of Malcolm Patrick (1923) Stockden, was born 9 July. On 25 October 1974 she married Peter Gullan in Western Australia. Their children: Travis Bruce (1975) b 15 May Melissa Kate (1979) b 11 July and Rebecca Lynn (1979) b 11 July (Rebecca and Melissa are twins). Kay Elizabeth (1950) GREEN Kay, daughter of Henry Albert (1912) Stockden, was born 19 May 1950 and married Brian Green on 28 January 1973 at Barcaldine, Queensland. Troy Martin (1975) b 13 March; Aaron David (1977) b 25 July and Nicholas Jay (1980) b 4 February. Peta Lorraine (1946) CALLADINE Peta is the daughter of Stanley Felix (1917) Stockden and his wife, Daisy Longson. She was born 5 December 1946 and she married Henry Calladine on 2 March 1974. Kaye Patricia (1952) KOSONEN Kaye, daughter of Malcolm Patrick (1923) Stockden, was born 2 February in Perth. She married on 20 January 1967 John Kosonen. Their children: Coralynne (1969) b 1 December and Michelle Alana (1972) b 26 March. Kathleen Anne (1958) ARTHY Kathleen Ann is the first daughter of Robert James (1932) Stockden. She was born on 12 May and married Noel Arthy on 5 June 1976. Colleen Toni (1960) TIRALONGO Colleen Toni, second daughter of Robert James (1932) Stockden, was born on 26 May married Reno Tiralongo (12 Apr 1954) on 12 March 1988. They have a son : Ryan Nazarene (1992) b 23 December. Kelly Elizabeth (1963) SMITH Kelly Elizabeth is the fourth child of Robert James (1931) Stockden. She was born 3 February and married John Stanley Smith (13 Aug 1953) on 10 Sep 1988. Brook Elizabeth (1991) b 14 June and Timothy John (1993) b 20 October. Kellie Maree (1969) LANGLEY Kellie Maree, third daughter of Kevin Ronald (1937) Stockden, was born 3 September, is a typist at the local Medical Centre. She married on 12 December 1992, Steven Andrew Langley. Their daughter, Claudia Jane (1996) b 21 March. Jenny (1969) MATTHEWS Jenny, daughter of Ian John (1944) Stockden, married in about 1989 to Neil Mathews. Neil was a single parent with two sons Heath and Kade. They had one daughter : Dawn Fay (1933) : b 10 Sep and married firstly Norman Steel (1931) with whom she had two children : Jennifer Jane (1957) b 1 January and married Gordon Basil Richter (1955) and their two children Pamela Jane (1980) and Catherine Anne (1984). Mark William (1959) b 22 February and married Kim Michelle Littley (1961) and their two children : Shaun Gordon (1979) and Garry William (1984). Dawn married secondly to Roy Mayne (1926). They have two children : Paul Edward (1962) who married Theresa Zeilinga (1965) and they have two children : Sean Edward (1992) and Patrick (1993) Susan Margaret (1965) who married John Dacre Vincent (1966). Blanche Eleanor (1910) RUSSELL Blanche Eleanor, daughter of Herbert John (1878) Stockden, was born 24 February 1910. She married Roland Squire Russell (1907-1991) on 31 May 1932. Their two children : Brian Squire (1933) b on 4 December and married Kathleen Howard (1936-1985 ). They had three children : Robert (1954) who married Kathleen Gallagher (1957).
