THE WHITCHURCH CUP For best exhibit in Craft section This handsome cup was the first one to be presented as part of the Whitchurch Society s Art & Craft Exhibition. It is now awarded by the judges for the best exhibit in the Adult Craft section. However, until 1988, when The Orford Cup was introduced, it was awarded for the best overall exhibit, which might have been art, craft or photography. The purpose of this award is to encourage adults to enter the exhibition who have never done so before. It is therefore awarded by the judges for the best exhibit by a first time adult entrant. THE JOYCE VOYSEY PRIZE For best interpretation of the theme This prize was presented by Tony Voysey in memory of his wife Joyce, a talented needlewoman who lived in the village with Tony for many years, and also ran the Exhibition. Each year, a theme is chosen by the organising committee and this prize is awarded by the judges to the exhibit which interprets the theme most aptly. It is an open class for all age groups and for any medium. THE BRAZIL AWARD For best exhibit in the video category This award was introduced in 2018 to encourage the submission of new media work, to compliment the traditional media of art, craft and photography. It is an open class for all age groups. The videos can be on any subject or style, with the only proviso that it lasts no more than 5 minutes and it is appropriate for viewing by everyone. THE JUNIOR AWARDS For best entry in each Junior age group There are four prizes in the Junior classes of the Exhibition. These are awarded to the overall winners in each of the four age groups in the 18 and under sections. In 2017, the four age groups were changed to become Under 6 years, 6 to 8 years, 9 to 11 years, and 12 to 18 years. Before 2017, the groups were differently split but the change was made to be fairer to the large cohort in the primary school years. The winner of the youngest age group is presented with a picture of Christopher Robin with Winnie the Pooh, and the other three junior winners are presented with cups. It is not known when the picture and the cups were first presented to the junior winners, although in 1997 for the first time, the Best Overall winners in four age groups are recorded.
