Scene s from Princeton s Past-The Eygabroad Family April 12, 2018 David Eygabroad was born in New York on November 10, 1804, and died in Princeton, WI, on April 22, 1861. He married Mariah DeLevergne in Minden, New York, on June 3, 1827. They had 8 children, four daughters, Mary, Lany, Martha, and Sarah, and four sons, Menzo, John, Albert, and Barney, all their children were born in the State of New York. David and Mariah Eygabroad came to Wisconsin in the 1850 s, and he was a farmer. Mariah DeLavergne Eygabroad was born in New York on January 20, 1808, and died in Princeton, WI, on March 19, 1891. Her parents were Nicholas and Margaret DeLavergne. Along with David and Mariah, the Eygabroad Children that are buried in the City of Princeton Cemetery include their daughters and spouses, Mary Eygabroad Myers and her husband Abraham, Lany Eygabroad Moyer, Martha Eygabroad Briggs and her husband William, Sarah Eygabroad Potter and her husband John, and David and Mariah s son Albert and his wife Sarah. David and Mariah s son Barney and his wife Elizabeth Andrews are buried in the Veterans Cemetery in King, WI, their son John and his wife Mathilda are buried in Oconomowoc, WI, and their son Menzo and his wife Eliza Egbert are buried in the Dartford Cemetery in Green Lake, WI. Albert Eygabroad, was born in New York on October 1, 1841, and died in 1933 at the age of 93. He enlisted in the Civil War from Manchester, WI, on March 18, 1864. He was wounded on June 18, 1864 near Petersburg, VA. He was taken prisoner at Ream s Station on August 25, 1864, and later returned to the Union Forces. He mustered out on May 23, 1865. He was a Private in Company F for the 36 th Wisconsin Infantry. Albert s first wife was Sarah, was born on November 20, 1849 in New York, and died in Green Lake County on October 12, 1887, she was 38 years old. Albert then married Auguste Farrington, on January 8, 1889. After Auguste died he married Mary Esther Hamlin, on May 11, 1893. In the 1880 and 1900 Census, Albert s occupation was listed as a farmer. On the 1920 and 1930 Census his address is listed as Clinton Street in Princeton. Albert s second and third wives are not buried in the City of Princeton Cemetery. Mary Eygabroad Myers was born on December 28, 1828, in New York, and died in Princeton on March 29, 1895, her husband Abraham was born in January 1829, and died in Green Lake County on November 24, 1894. Mary and Abraham had five daughters, Henrietta, Ellen, Adelaide, Elizabeth, and Libbie. On the 1870 Census, Abraham s occupation was listed as County Judge, and on the 1880 Census his occupation was listed as Lawyer. Lany Eygabroad Moyer was born on March 27, 1833, in New York, and died on June 30, 1878, she was 45 years old. Lany s husband Simeon, remarried after her death and moved to Saginaw MI, where he died on November 23, 1899. His second wife was Isadore DeLaverge, who was the first cousin to his first wife, Lany. Lany s mother was the sister to Isadore s father, Joseph. Lany came to Wisconsin with her husband Simeon at an early age. They settled in Pleasant Valley in 1851, which is now the Township of Princeton. In April of 1875, Lany and Simeon s house was burned. Lany s obituary stated because of the fire, it was such a fright and it gave her system such a shock, that her health started to decline, and in the Fall of 1875, paralysis made her a helpless invalid. Martha Eygabroad Briggs was born in New York, on August 17, 1835, and died in Princeton, on March 19, 1878, her husband William, was born on December 1820 in New York, and died in Green Lake
County on April 2, 1895. William was a farmer, and on the 1860 Census Martha and William lived in Dayton in Green Lake County, and on the 1870 Census they lived in the Princeton. Martha and William had 3 children, a son Alfred, and 2 daughters, Lena and Mary. After Martha died William married Emma Clark in 1881. William was 61 years old when he married Emma, and she was 18 years old. William and Emma had 3 children, a daughter Ethel, when William was 66 years old, a daughter Orrilla, when William was 68 years old and a son William Jr., when he was 72 years old. Four of William and Emma s other children died during infancy. William died at the age of 75 from an acute attack of pneumonia. William and Emma, and in the years before in death they lived on Farmer Street in Princeton, and he was one of the old settlers of Princeton. Emma died on September 30, 1899, when she was 36 years old and is buried in the City of Princeton Cemetery. Sarah Eygabroad Potter, was born on May 1, 1852, in New York, and died on November 16, 1888, at the age of 36, her husband John was born on April 5, 1833, in New York, and died on April 14, 1897. Sarah was 19 years younger than her husband. Sarah and John Potter had 6 children and they lived in the Township of Princeton, at that time called Pleasant Valley. Sarah and John s daughters Margaret, Leona, Adelaide, Sarah and Bessie were all born in Princeton, their son Vergne was born in Wausau. Sarah and John s daughter Adelaide Potter Greene is buried next to her parents. On the 1880 John s occupation was listed as a Brick Mason. Information for this article was found on ancestry.com. Sarah Eygabroad Potter Daughter of David The Band Mother s Cook Books are still available and can be purchased either at the Berlin Journal Newspapers in Berlin, WI or at City Hall in Princeton. The City of Princeton will celebrate its 175 th Anniversary in 2023. The 1973 Quas Qui Centennial Book will be reprinted because the companion book that will cover the history of Princeton from 1973-2023 and will be published sometime in 2022. If anyone does not have and would want the reprinted 1973 Quas Qui Centennial Book, the book will be available in late spring.
