Report on Activities of the Gesellschaft für f r Arbeitswissenschaft (GfA( GfA) in the Years 2007, 2008, 2009 during IEA Council Meeting, August 9 10 Reykjavik / Iceland presented by Prof. Dr. H. Strasser Ergonomics Division University of Siegen / Germany
The Gesellschaft für Arbeitswissenschaft not a country based but rather a language based society (31.12.2007: 539 members from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland). Two conferences per year: Spring Conference principally a more scientifically-oriented event in order to provide a forum for young ergonomists and work scientists. Fall conference more practitioner oriented. Work scientists and ergonomists, as well as occupational physicians from research institutes and universities meet yearly to exchange experiences and ideas on current issues and problems of ergonomics. Personnel responsible for occupational health and safety of the workforce, staff in charge of work planning in companies, and members of professional associations, trade unions, mutual insurance associations, and government agencies are mostly interested in knowledge of work design that is applicable to real-life situations. Ergonomics, as an applied and interdisciplinary science, with its goal of comprehensive work design, is expected to develop and provide methods and procedures as well as examples for the analysis, assessment, and the ergonomic design of workplaces, work tools, work courses and contents, and working environment. This is also true for product-ergonomics, i.e., user-friendly, developments and research activities.
