The International Committee on Training distributed the ICOMOS CIF Guidelines for Capacity Building for Crafts to CIF Guidelines Working Group and held a Skype meeting on August 24 2014 to discuss and revise the document: this document was presented at the Workshop in Florence. 1
The International Committee on Training held an International Workshop in Florence, Italy, in November 2015; 27 participants attended the Workshop, of which 12 were not members. 3 Scientific Work Programme 3-1 Date adoption of the Scientific Work Programme: Nine-year CIF Work Programme 2005-2014, 2005/07 Svätý Jur, Slovakia. Report to be found on the CIF website: Multi-year Program; Quebec 2008, Paris 2011, Rome 2012 CIF Meeting Minutes. 3-2 Suggestions for new initiatives: Create a Working group on training and education in crafts for heritage conservation - Develop a three year workprogram; Digitalize CIF and other important training documents; Create a Working group on Network for Universities ; Organize an international working conference in Italy, in the Spring 2016. 4 Seminars The International Committee on Training held an International Workshop in Florence, Italy, in November 2014. 4-1 List of gatherings: International CIF Workshop, Florence (Italy), 2014-11-13; 27 participants attended the Workshop 4-2 Summary for the Annual Report: CIF held one Workshop that dealt with the development of Principles and Guidelines for Capacity Building in Heritage Conservation Education and Training; the CIF Workshop Minutes are posted on the CIF Website. Five Speakers presented relevant information about education and training in heritage conservation: Paolo Semprini director of ASSFORM, made a presentation on his fully digital training programme; Aylin Orbasli, reader in Architectural Regeneration, Oxford Brookes University, shared a new learning resource called Sacred Spaces from Management to Managing the Experience of Visitors ; Paul McMahon, president of CIF-ICOMOS Ireland, shared a draft report of their workshop on ICOMOS Guidance on Education and Training 2013: Sustaining our Built Environment Reviewing the State of Conservation, Education and Training ; Maria Teresa Iaquinta, liaison Officer for cooperation with Italy at ICCROM, made a presentation on Capacity Building in the safeguarding of cultural heritage, based on the results of a study made on the budget of the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and a survey on the meaning/value of cultural heritage in Italy; and Alessandro Tosi, associate professor at the Department of Civilizations and Forms of Knowledge, at the University of Pisa, made a short presentation on the Master of Science Courses in Planning and Management of Mediterranean Tourism Systems, and in History of Modern Art and New Technologies for Cultural Heritage. Lyse Blanchet, CIF president, opened the discussion mentioning the background of the Capacity Building Principles document, which is being drafted by the CIF Working group. The structure of the document was explained, highlighting the necessity of preparing various Guidelines for targeted audiences. As an example, the on-going preparation of the Guidelines for the professionals and that of the Craftspersons were mentioned. 5 International Monuments and Sites Day on 18 April 5-1 List of events: The Committee has not been involved in this event. 6 Heritage Alerts and Heritage@Risk The Committee has not been involved in this publication; however, the NEW Principles under development will introduce the concept of risk awareness and preparedness. The preventive monitoring of cultural heritage sites is also identified as one of the main activities of a cultural resource conservation and management plan. 7 World Heritage related activities 7-1 List of activities: The Committee has not been involved in this event. 7-2 Summary for the Annual Report: N/A 8 Other Activities and Programmes Suggestions for new initiatives: Developing Guidelines for Wood and Timber training for Central America; Development of Guidelines for Professionals in Europe; Updating the CIF Website its layout and structure; Updating CIF archival documents and their classification to be put on the website; Drafting the history of CIF and its foundation, as well as, the history of the Training Guidelines of 1993. 9 Publications 9-1 None 2
9-2 Summary for the Annual Report: 10 Current topics In addition to the themes mentioned above, the Committee activated its sub-committee on Crafts in conservation: The Guidelines of the Craft sub-committee has been drafted and translated in 2014. 11 Partners 11-1 Partnerships with other Committees and/or affinity organizations: ICCROM and the following ISCs: CIAV, CIPA, Stained Glass International Committee, International Committee on Risk Preparedness; and the following Institutions: European Centre for Trades and Professions for the Conservation of Architectural Heritage, Centre for Conservtion and Preservation of Islamic Architecture, Confédération de l artisanat et des petites enterprises du bâtiment, École d Avignon. 11-2 Summary for the Annual Report: The Committee has four (4) institutional members, including CAPEB (Confédération de l artisanat et des petites entreprises de bâtiment), the European Centre for Trades and Professions for the Conservation of Architectural Heritage, École d Avignon, and Centre for Conservation and Preservation of Islamic Architecture. The Committee also developed a partnership with The Ireland Construction Industry Federation, Heritage Contractors Group, ICOMOS Ireland and ICOMOS UK on the Seminar on the Register of heritage contractors of Ireland. 12 Obituary During the year, CIF was saddened by the loss of Mr Karel Bakker headed the Department of Architecture in the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology at the University of Pretoria, one of its longest-standing members and voting member for South Africa. 13 Awards CIF welcomed the award of the prestigious ICOMOS Honorary Membership Prize to one of its members, Mr. Jukka Jokilehto. 14 Photographs CIF - ISC Session November 11 2015.
