Introduction Why the JAU-NE? The Journée de l'architecture et de l'urbanisme NEuchâtel is a non-political nonprofit entity that aims to create a platform for the different players of the construction sector at the Swiss and international level to discuss and debate major issues. Its first edition in 2016 stemmed from the SINE (Salon de l'immobilier NEuchâtelois, www.sine.ch). Since 2017, the JAU-NE has been organised in a totally independent way. The event is intended to be an innovative and unifying event for the development of the architecture and town planning sector and will, over time, become an event in its own right, with an influence that not only covers Switzerland but will reach across the world. JAU-NE gathers together internationally renowned architects and academics, investors and government representatives, to benefit from the experience and knowledge they have developed in a very wide range of different topics, thanks to debates, conferences and round table discussions. Why Neuchâtel? Given its towns of Le Locle and La Chaux-de-Fonds, which are listed as world heritage sites by UNESCO, its mountains and lakes, its world-renowned architecture with the works of Le Corbusier, Neuchâtel is the perfect setting for such an event. Its buildings made of the Hauterive yellow stone, which are several centuries old, stand confidently alongside modern architectural achievements. Join us for this tremendous experience and let us find the solutions together to the real needs of the construction sector by making Neuchâtel the home of the influential JAU-NE event for one day. Why Neuchâtel? The canton of Neuchâtel offers an ideal setting, full of contrasts: its lake and mountains, its medieval villages and its stately homes, its vineyards, its highways and its towns of La Chaux-de-Fonds and Le Locle, which are listed by UNESCO as World Heritage sites and on which Le Corbusier left his mark. Neuchâtel, which has received the "Cité de l'energie" energy city award, is home to the Dürenmatt Centre, the Red Church and many museums and specialised elite schools, among other things. The buildings, which are several centuries old, constructed in the yellow stone of Hauterive, rub shoulders with contemporary works such as the Microcity, while, from the towns to the countryside, the industrial architecture reminds us of the rise of the watchmaking industry and the urbanisation of the Neuchâtel Mountains. Origins of the JAU-NE The origins of the JAU-NE stem from the organisation of the Salon de l'immobilier NEuchâtelois (SINE) back in 2010. The show has nearly 120 exhibitors spread over a floor space of 5,000 sqm and 12,000 visitors received over 5 days. The growing interest in architecture and town planning, honed by the achievements of certain leading builders, creates a vitality that is conducive to developing and organising a one-day event that brings together the various players of these sectors. Based on a study carried out by the HEG Arc de Neuchâtel and with the support and interest of central organisation of the SIA, Neuchâtel section, the positive response to the first JAU-NE event held in 2016 demonstrated the need to develop such an event and to continue its expansion by turning it into the essential international event of its kind, while developing the multiple facets of the field of architecture and town planning. 3
Goals To generate a high-level debate, promote exchanges between decision-makers and practitioners, and create an interface platform between the operators of the construction sector. JAU-NE contributes through conferences, debates and round table discussions to the development of the architecture and town planning sector using a variety of topics. It unites by bringing together many people or institutions that are active in the field of architecture and creates a platform for discussing the experiences and knowledge developed with a worldwide audience. Guests Architects, town planners, professional associations, architecture students, public authorities, institutions, investors, promoters and all those who are passionate about the subject, as well as the press and specialised media. 4
2017 event The first Journée de l'architecture et de l'urbanisme NEuchâtel took place on 28 April 2017 in the first section of the Patinoires du Littoral and then at the Microcity Neuchâtel. It was a very thrilling event. "What is the ideal city of tomorrow?" This is the question that was asked at the opening of the first event and both the conferences and the round table discussions were used to debate this question which replaced the topic of the day. Each participant used their experience to pass on their vision of the architecture and town planning sectors using presentations or debates of the highest standard. During the second part of the day, a supposed conflict between architecture and town planning was sometimes mentioned. However, at the end of the day, the conclusion that seemed to reflect the consensus of all the participants was: densification is living better together. At the end of a day that was "dense" for everyone, we can be sure that the JAU-NE was a great success. The presentations, the press review and photos of the 2017 event are available and downloadable on our www.jau-ne.ch website. The Journée de l'architecture et de l'urbanisme NEuchâtel promises to have a bright future with an influence that will reach French-speaking Switzerland, the entire nation and, subsequently, across borders. The next event is planned for 27 April 2018 at the Aula of the University of Neuchâtel, Jeunes- Rives, on the topic of "Space". 5
