Taylor Library, designed by the renowned Henry Hobson Richardson, opened on Mardi Gras day in 1889. Then called the Howard Memorial Library, it served as a reference library with a focus on Louisiana. With a rotunda adorned with hand-carved Hounds of Knowledge and a wide-open stacks area featuring vaulted ceilings, the Library is one of the most beloved and versatile venues in New Orleans. /// Photo by Sexton Images *Please note: Patrick F. Taylor Library is not ADA compliant, and people with limited mobility may have trouble accessing the building. Restrooms for the Library are located in Goldring Hall.
Frequently Asked Questions: Q: What does the Museum provide with facility rentals? A: Facility rentals include the space(s) rented, security and an on-site coordinator. All beverage service is provided through the Museum at an additional cost, while catering, furniture rental, A/V and any other services are contracted through third-party vendors. All third-party vendors must be approved by the Museum. The on-site coordinator acts only as an intermediary between the Museum, client and third-party vendors for the interests of the Museum, and does not serve as an event planner for the client. Q: Can I bring in my own caterer? A: The Museum allows clients to bring in outside caterers at no additional charge. All caterers must be licensed and insured, approved by the Museum and available for an on-site meeting with the events manager no less than 30 days prior to the date of the event. Outside caterers may not provide beverage service. Q: How long is a regular rental period? A: The Museum rents its facilities in 4-hour blocks of time. Additional time may be contracted at an incremental, additional cost. Load-in and load-out are not included in this 4-hour time. Q: Does the Museum provide parking? A: Adjacent parking lots are not owned by the Museum. Parking Arrangements can be made with Premium Parking via premiumparking.com.
