PROJECT NOTES 3/2/09 Laurie Searle Emailed Carole Harper to ask if she knew who owned the Hearn Family Cemetery and this was her response: == When you say Hearn Cemetery are you talking about the cemetery on the corner of Hearn Rd. & Hutcheson Ferry? If so that is not the Hearn Cemetery, it is a part of New Hope Church. I have records showing who is buried there. Joann and Harold Whitley live there by the cemetery and they have been the caretakers for many years. Her mother is Sara Wilson and she could tell you many things about it but I am not sure if she can today. 3/3/09 Laurie Searle I called Joann Whitley and asked if I could see the cemetery. She met me there and gave me some history of the cemetery. She and her husband are the caretakers and anyone is welcome to visit the cemetery there is no need to call first. Although it should be noted that she has two protective dogs that guard the place, she said they do not bite. Joann said we could come and map the cemetery. I advise that we bring a recorder and record her story about the cemetery as she has quite a lot to tell. Local folks call this the Jackson Cemetery because Mr. Charles Jacksons kinfolks are buried here. There are also slaves buried (I think she said 17) although there are no markers for them. === 3/4/09 Laurie Searle I called Carole Harper and to ask if she had a list of the gravestones and a cemetery map. She emailed them to me as.jpg attachments, which I have include in this file. I emailed this information to Emmeline Reed. === 03/26/09 Laurie Searle Scanned Kay Long s cemetery map and sent to Emmeline Reed, retyped Sarah Wilson s tombstone list.
