Offer of Artwork and Grant Request Metro Vancouver Naval Monument Society File: 0230-01 Report: Public Art Officer, North Vancouver Recreation and Culture Commission, February 24, 2015 Moved by Councillor Keating, seconded by Councillor Bell PURSUANT to the report of the Public Art Officer, North Vancouver Recreation and Culture Commission, dated February 24, 2015, entitled Offer of Artwork and Grant Request Metro Vancouver Naval Monument Society : WHEREAS the Metro Vancouver Naval Monument Society has offered to gift a three figure bronze sculpture commemorating shipbuilding to the City of North Vancouver, to be placed at the Shipyards site, and has further requested a grant to assist with various aspects of the project; and WHEREAS the City of North Vancouver currently has an extensive inventory of artwork and fixtures installed at the Shipyards commemorating the site s history; BE IT RESOLVED THAT City Council accept Metro Vancouver Naval Monument Society s offer of artwork contingent upon the following conditions: 1) Metro Vancouver Naval Monument Society, be responsible for all expenses associated with the design, fabrication and installation of the sculpture; 2) Final Design/configuration of the sculpture including revisions to the stance of the female worker and confirmation of historic accuracy be approved by the North Vancouver Public Art Advisory Committee prior to fabrication; 3) City staff, Public Art Officer and Metro Vancouver Naval Monument Society work together to find a suitable location for the sculpture on the Shipyards site, once Council adopts a plan for the Shipyards site.
