6 AREA OVERVIEW Boca Raton is a city in Palm Beach County, Florida, USA, incorporated in May According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 29.1 square miles square miles of this is land and 1.9 square miles of it is water. Boca Raton is a principal city (as defined by the Census Bureau) of the South Florida metropolitan area. In the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 74,764 and the 2006 population recorded by the U.S. Census Bureau was 86,396. However, the majority of the people under the postal address of Boca Raton, about 200,000 in total, are not actually within Boca Raton s municipal boundaries.
