11 AREA INFORMATION COLUMBUS, GEORGIA Columbus, Georgia lies 100 miles south of Atlanta and is 90 minutes from Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson International Airport. Just completed is a public-private partnership that created a 2.5 mile urban white-water rafting course. Total spending on the project was over $25 million. The project was just one part of a redevelopment effort in Columbus downtown district known as UpTown. FORT BENNING, GEORGIA Located less than 7 miles from the main gate, Fort Benning is one of the largest US Army bases in the United States.
