17 Application Information for Kristopher M. Kline, P.L.S., G.S.I. Wednesday, May 30th 2018: Orange Beach, Alabama for ASPLS This document Includes: Course Overview Course Objectives Course Timeline Instructor Bio Course Overview: Know When to Hold'em and other Procedural Pitfalls At the core of our profession is the boundary monument, and most boundary retracement decisions revolve around the choice to hold an existing monument, set a new monument, or choose between multiple existing monuments. Part one of this seminar is an in-depth discussion of principles that form the basis of this critical decision, including the rules of construction, sufficiency of research, and relevant common law for the analysis for several types of property corners. Part two will provide an overview of adverse possession, prescriptive easements, and quasi easements. This is a general overview of several different principles. Knowledge of these topics will help the surveyor to improve his research and location techniques (both office and field) so as to better serve the client in cases where disputes may arise. Material presented will focus primarily on Alabama precedent, with additional examples from Florida and Tennessee. Course Objectives Upon completion of this program participants should be able to: > Better understand the significance of various types of monuments. ~ Correctly apply principles of boundary retracement. > Better evaluate and document evidence of land use that is not consistent with the location of record boundary lines > Identify and document evidence of quasi-easements.

20 Instructor Bio: Kristopher M. Kline, president of 2Point, Inc., has a four-year degree (class of '84) in General Science from Bridgewater College located in Bridgewater, Va. He has been involved in the surveying profession since graduation. Kris became licensed in North Carolina inl 991 (P.L.S. L ). He is a 1999 graduate of the North Carolina Society of Surveyors (N.C.S.S.) Institute, a three-year continuing education program that for many years drew national attention for the quality of its curriculum and instructors. Kris served for 3 years as Chairman of the N.C.S.S. Education Committee. In 2001, Kris began offering continuing education courses in North Carolina on legal aspects of retracement. More recently, his teaching career has expanded to include conferences and seminars nationwide. Course offerings now include a broad range of topics, including adverse possession & other unwritten rights, riparian law, mineral rights and courtroom preparation. Customized courses tailored to the jurisdiction in which they are presented enhance their value to the professional. Kris has presented several keynote addresses for state conventions. In 2011, he established "Unmistakable Marks," a new column published in "Point of Beginning" a trade magazine for surveying professionals. Kris presently submits bi-monthly articles for the magazine, with over 35 articles published to date. These write-ups are intended for a national audience and generally focus on various legal aspects of boundary retracement. In August 2013, Kris published his first book "Rooted in Stone: the Development of Adverse Possession in 20 Eastern States and the District of Columbia." This text considers adverse possession and prescriptive easements from their early origins to the present day. Separate chapters are dedicated to variations between jurisdictions in the eastern United States.

21 His second book, "Riparian Boundaries and Rights of Navigation" includes extensive discussion of the many definitions of the term "navigable." This short volume was completed in 2015 and focuses on property rights along smaller rivers, streams, lakes and estuaries. It considers the inevitable confusion that results when modern definitions are applied to early grants and the effects of subsequent legislation on riparian rights. Kline's third (and latest) book was released in December "How to Fix a Boundary Line" chronicles variations in the legal mechanisms related to unwritten property rights across the United States. Topics include acquiescence, part performance of oral contracts, adverse possession, estoppel and the doctrine of merger.

Course Objectives: The attendee will be able utilize multiple acquisition platforms and technologies to secure data for a single 3D project deliverable. Course Outline with Timeline: (One-Hour Course) I. Introduction (5 Minutes) We will explore the advantages and challenges using projects performed in which multiple technologies were used for a single deliverable. II. Key Factors to Determining the Right Survey Tools (10 Minutes) In this section, we will discuss the importance of determining the appropriate platform to collect survey data based on the project requirements, and customizing an approach. Multiple collection methods include: Aerial LiDAR, Mobile LiDAR, Aerial photogrammetric imagery, water soundings, static scanning and traditional ground survey. III. Advantages and Challenges of Multiple Platforms (10 Minutes) Whether it is combining mobile and aerial LiDAR or traditional photogrammetry and ground survey, there can be many advantages to using multiple technologies within a single project corridor. Some advantages include a cost savings for both the client and project owner; achieving high accuracies in key locations of large project areas; reduction of survey schedule; safety; and increasing coverage footprint by the reduction of obscured areas. IV. Advantages and Challenges of Data Integration (10 minutes) Along with any advancement in technological approaches, there are many challenges that are associated with the merging of multiple data sets to create a seamless product. These potential challenges include mismatches in the calibration or alignment; gaps, overlaps, and differences caused by different collection times between; and different resolutions causing variations in surface models. V. 3D Project Delivery Process (10 Minutes) Detailed slides will describe the entire delivery process from control to producing the final 3D file deliverables. VI. Getting to Design Faster (5 Minutes) We will discuss meeting the reduced delivery schedules and using a combination of paired platforms to get to design faster. VII.
