1 Speed Bar User Guide The Matrix Speed Bar is a multi-purpose searching tool that recognized specific short-hands for Property Type, Street Name, and Agent Name searches. As you conduct searches, Matrix will automatically show you the short-hand codes for each search in the Speed Bar, located at the top of each Matrix screen. The behavior of the Speed Bar will be the same, and is independent of the Matrix tabbed section the user is using. In addition, the user may use the Recent Search History list to the right of the Speed Bar to easily jump between previous searches. This document covers in detail the many different types of searches available in the Matrix Speed Bar feature: Section 1: Basic Speed Bar Syntax Section 2: Agent Speed Bar Syntax Section 3: Address Speed Bar Syntax Section 4: Advanced Speed Bar Syntax Section 5: Saving a Custom Speed Bar Limited Feature: Open House Speed Bar Syntax The easiest way to use Speed Bar in the beginning is to use it as a quick Revise Search tool. Conduct a normal search, see the Speed Bar syntax that is populated for your search in the Speed Bar, and adjust some of the criteria. For example, change the Area number, or adjust the beds and baths numbers, within the Speed Bar instead of clicking the Revise button to adjust in the Search screen. Page 1

2 Common Short-hand Examples Status: A for Active; S for Sold Listing Class: RESI for Residential; XPROP for Cross Property; SFR for Single Family Residential; TH for Townhouse/Condo Area Code: area 27 for Alameda County; area 18 for Cupertino; area 614 for Highland Park; etc. MLS Numbers: (note the space between MLS numbers) List Price: $ or $ or $ (do not use commas in numbers) Bedrooms and Bathrooms: for 3 or more bedrooms and 2 or more bathrooms (note that Matrix Speed Bar will always read beds first) Building Square Feet: sqft or sqft Roster Search: ag caldwell or ag john caldwell or ag terry* caldwell Street Name: caldwell (just type the street name, do not type any suffixes like St, Ave, Rd, etc.) Feel free to combine short-hand codes. For example, a p sfr area 19 would search for Active or Pending Residential Single Family listings in Sunnyvale. Tips: Case doesn't matter. Order usually doesn t matter (except for bedrooms and bathrooms must be beds first.) Put spaces between Shorthand codes, not commas. Do not put Street Suffixes (like Ave, Way, Street). Simply type the Street Name, or type the Street Number and then Street Name For now, Speed Bar only takes up to 3 words for Street Name. (Ex: El Camino Real is fine. Alameda De Las Pulgas is not found using the Speed Bar; use regular Address Search for that instead.) For now, Speed Bar cannot take wildcard Street Name searches. (Ex: Alameda* and Alameda De Las* will not work.) Double-check the search criteria at the bottom of the results page to ensure Matrix searched for what you asked for. Note: If you do not define a property type in your Speed Bar search the Speed Bar will default to searching RESI Residential only. This is especially visible with Address search, where for example, El Camino Real would pull up Residential listings on that street, but not listings from any other classes. If you want all listings from El Camino Real, then use XPROP Street Name. If you only want Commercial listings from this street, use COMM Street Name. Page 2

A tip for conducting this type of search quickly is: (1) From any Matrix screen, use Speed Bar for a quick Agent search ag j* s* (2) Hit the Revise button on the bottom left hand corner (3) Now type in a Broker Code or City Name/ Code and hit Results (4) You should see a narrowed search on agents with first name starting with j and last name starting with s working at your desired brokerage or city. 11 Section 5: Saving a Custom Speed Bar Custom Speed Bar is just another method for quickly recalling a previous search. Any search can be tagged with a Custom Speed Bar name created by the user. Also called a Speed Bar Shortcut, the user selects what name they wish to assign to a particular Speed Bar Shortcut with the / mark in front. As illustration of user created Speed Bar Shortcuts, normally a search in the Speed Bar for sc will return all Residential listings in Santa Clara city, but if a user conducts a search for Active Commercial properties located on El Camino Real and chooses to call it /sc by saving a New Speed Bar Shortcut with that name. Then, the next time the user types /sc in the Speed Bar, that specific search for Active Commercial on El Camino Real will be run. Page 11

12 Limited Feature: Open House Speed Bar Syntax Very simple Open House Syntax is available in Speed Bar for demonstration purposes, and we are planning additional Open House Syntax in future releases. Today, the oh notation can only be used to pull open houses by date, and the date ranges must be no earlier than today, and no later than 30 days from today.
