MEDIEVAL MANUSCRIPTS Two medieval manuscripts, one an early fourteenth-century text of Aegidius Columna's Liber de regimine principum, of English provenance, in its original binding (NLW MS 22872C); the other a unique text of an English translation of the rules of the Third Order of St Francis in a manuscript dating from around 1500 which was once in Thomas Pennant's library at Downing (NLW MS 22873B). BIRDSALL BOOKBINDING COLLECTIONS The residue of the archive of Birdsall & Son, the Northampton firm of bookbinders and one of the major bookbinding firms in Britain during the 19th and 20th centuries, supplementing photographs from the archive acquired by the library in 1982; it consists mainly of illustrated cuttings, rubbings, photographs of historical bindings, and material on the history of the firm.
