After a sold-out run last season, we are proud to bring A Q Brothers Christmas Carol, a hip-hop reinterpretation of Charles Dickens perennial classic, back to the theater Upstairs at Chicago Shakespeare. This production marks the third collaboration between Creative Producer Rick Boynton and the Q Brothers, following two Shakespearean ad-rap-tations Funk It Up About Nothin and Othello: The Remix. Since its premiere at Shakespeare s Globe during London s 2012 Cultural Olympiad, Othello: The Remix has toured to festivals around the world, including: Australia, England, Germany, New Zealand, Poland, Scotland, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates. The global sensation will return home to Chicago Shakespeare in 2016 as part of Shakespeare 400 Chicago a yearlong, international arts festival that will celebrate four centuries of Shakespeare s legacy through theater, music, dance, art and cuisine. Combining the artistic resource of a leading cultural institution like CST with the talent of generative artists like the Q Brothers produces a theatrical experience that resonates with audiences of all ages. A DJ with more than ten years of experience, Super Nova is no stranger to theater, with credits as DJ and sound designer for the Q Brothers Funk It Up About Nothin and The Bomb-itty of Errors (Penn State Center Stage). Super Nova received his computer engineering degree at Penn State University. RICK BOYNTON (Creative Producer) focuses on current and future artistic planning and production, as well as the development of all new plays, musicals and adaptations for CST. CARRIE TAYLOR (Production Stage Manager beginning December 22) returns to Chicago Shakespeare Theater, where her credits include: The Tempest, Chicago Shakespeare in the Parks production of Shakespeare s Greatest Hits; Sense and Sensibility; Short Shakespeare! productions of Macbeth and A Midsummer Night s Dream; and Othello: The Remix. GRETA HONOLD (Q Brothers Producing Company Manager) is a Chicago-based producer, actor and arts administrator. Greta is the Audience Engagement Creative Producer at Steppenwolf Theatre Company and has worked behind the scenes at a number of Chicago theaters including Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Court Theatre, Second City, About Face Theatre and Dog & Pony. As an actor she has been seen onstage at Goodman Theatre, Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Chicago Dramatists, Chicago Children s Theatre, Collaboraction, Profiles Theatre, Redmoon and Piven Theatre, among others. Ms. Honold is a graduate of the School at Steppenwolf, received her BA from the University of Chicago and her MFA in Arts Leadership from the Theatre School at DePaul University, in conjunction with Chicago Shakespeare Theater. BOB MASON (Artistic Associate/Casting Director) celebrates his fifteenth season as CST s casting director, where his credits include over eighty productions and thirty-two plays in Shakespeare s canon. In addition to twenty-one productions with Barbara Gaines, other productions of note include: eight Sondheim musicals directed by Gary Griffin; Rose Rage: Henry VI, Parts 1, 2 and 3, directed by Edward Hall; and The Molière Comedies, directed by Brian Bedford. Additional Chicago credits include the precursor to Road Show, entitled Bounce (Goodman Theatre and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts), as well as productions for Asolo Repertory Theatre, Northlight Theatre and Northwestern University s American Music Theatre Project. Prior to casting, Mr. Mason enjoyed a fifteen-year career as a Jeff Awardwinning actor and singer, and has been a visiting educator for the School at Steppenwolf, Acting Studio Chicago, the University of Illinois at Chicago and Northwestern University. RICHARD JORDAN PRODUCTIONS (Producing Partner) is an Olivier- and Tony Award-winning production company under the artistic leadership of British producer Richard Jordan. His London-based company was founded in 1998 and has been at the forefront of developing and presenting works by a diverse range of established and emerging writers and artists. The recipient of over 30 major international theater awards and enjoying associations with many of the world s leading theaters and arts organizations, the company has produced over 190 productions in the UK and 21 other countries, including 70 world premieres and 81 European, Australian or US premieres. Described by the UK s Stage newspaper as one of the UK s most prolific theatre producers and named seven times in their top 100 theater professionals, Richard was the first recipient of the TIF/Society of London Theatre Producers Award and in 2009 a finalist in the British Council s first-ever Creative Entrepreneur Award. In 2010 for his services to the UK and international theatre industries, he was selected for life time inclusion in A & C Black s Who s Who. In London his co-production of Roadkill won the 2012 Laurence Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement at an Affiliate Theatre. In New York, his co-production of Christopher Durang s new play Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike received the 2013 Tony Award for Best New Play, as well as the Drama Desk, Drama League, New York Critics, Broadway.com and outer Critic Circle Best New Play Awards. Past productions in the US have received the Helen Hayes, US Black Alliance, Jeff and Obie Awards. Richard enjoys a close relationship with Chicago Shakespeare Theater where he has produced: Itsoseng; en route; A History of Everything; Roadkill; Dickens Women; Cadre; Since I Suppose; world tours of The Q Brothers Funk It Up About Nothin and Othello: The Remix. They are currently working together on various productions for the forthcoming Shakespeare 400 Chicago Festival. BARBARA GAINES (Artistic Director) is the founder and artistic director of Chicago Shakespeare Theater, where she has directed more than thirty of Shakespeare s plays. Honors include: the 2008 Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre; the prestigious Honorary OBE (Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) in recognition of her contributions strengthening British-American cultural relations; and Joseph Jefferson Awards for Best Production (Hamlet, Cymbeline, King Lear and The Comedy of Errors), and for Best Director (Cymbeline, King Lear and The Comedy of Errors). At Lyric Opera of Chicago, Ms. Gaines directed Macbeth and this season s The Marriage of Figaro. She received an Honorary Doctorate of Letters from the University of Birmingham (UK), the University Club of Chicago s Cultural Award, the Public Humanities Award from the Illinois Humanities Council and the Spirit of Loyola Award. Ms. Gaines serves on the Shakespearean Council of Shakespeare s Globe Theatre in London. CRISS HENDERSON (Executive Director) has produced CST s past twenty-six seasons. Under his leadership, CST has become one of the nation s leading regional theaters and one of Chicago s most celebrated cultural organizations, honored with the 2008 Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre, as well as multiple Laurence Olivier and Joseph Jefferson Awards. Mr. Henderson has garnered numerous honors, including: the 2013 Cultural Innovation Award from Chicago Innovation Awards; Arts Administrator of the Year by Arts Management Magazine at the Kennedy Center, and the Chevalier de L Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the Minister of Culture of France. He was named among the top 40 business people under the age of 40 in Crain s Chicago Business. He serves as president of the Producers Association of Chicago-area Theatres and on the Board of Directors of the League of Chicago Theatres. Mr. Henderson is director of the MFA/Arts Leadership Program, a two-year graduatelevel curriculum in arts management training, created through a joint partnership between Chicago Shakespeare Theater and The Theatre School at DePaul University.
