This report transmits the adopted List of Local Master Architects and provides an opportunity for the Cultural Heritage Commission to review the list and recommend any desired amendments to be further reviewed. BACKGROUND The List of Local Master Architects is an official list maintained by the City that includes architects and/or designers who are considered masters in their field and have designed properties in the City of Beverly Hills. On July 3, 2012, the City Council adopted the first City of Beverly Hills List of Local Master Architects. At the time the original list was adopted, it was acknowledged and understood that the list would be subject to amendments on occasion. The Cultural Heritage Commission conducted a comprehensive review and amendment to the original list as an implementation measure of the 2015 revised Historic Preservation Ordinance and adopted Version 2 of the list on October 14, 2015, followed by a minor revision to the list at their January 2016 meeting. The current list in use is Version 2.1, included as Attachment 1 to this report. DISCUSSION The Master Architect List was compiled to assist in the identification and evaluation of properties for historical significance. One of the primary purposes it serves is to screen development proposals on properties that might possess architectural merit, and institutes a 30-day hold on certain permits to allow for further examination (pursuant to Beverly Hills Municipal Code ). Additionally, one criterion for local landmark designation takes into account whether a property is an exceptional work by a master architect (BHMC B.2).
