5 THE UNIVERSITY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA PLAYERS' CLU B The UBC Players' Club was founded forty-tw o years ago, on November 2, 1915, b y Professor Frederick G. C. Wood. In 1920 the clu b made its first tour of the province, playing in ten provincial centres. Since that date the tour has been an annual event except for about four years. As many as twenty-nine interior towns during one tour have been visited. The Players' Club is the oldest dramati c organization to have sustained activity in Canada. Professor Wood founded this dramatic organization for undergraduates at the University primarily as a training ground in all aspects of theatre. Not only d o the students present two major productions each academic year but, under expert direction, they receive instruction it stage design and construction, lighting, make-up and costume design as well a s acting. The members of the club which now has a membershi p of eighty, are particularly aware of their obligatio n to those who attend their productions. They endeavour to present plays of a high calibre and over the year s there have been many successes. These productions and the many others provided the initial trainin g ground for many of Canada's leading actors an d actresses. It is hoped TWELFTH NIGHT IN MODERN DRES S will prove to have been an excellent choice, not only for the performances in the Auditorium, but also fo r tour. Plans are now well in hand for the tour. The following places are to be visited : Bralorne, Courtenay, Kelowna, Lilloet, Lytton, Nelson, Salmon Arm, Summerland, Trail and Vernon. It is likely that certain other places will be included on the itinerary.
