An old grain silo, about to be converted to modern apartments, presented a unique opportunity for the architects at C.F. Møller - but also a challenge, says partner Juian Weyer from C.F. Moller.

The result is The Sil(o)houette - The Silo in the green - an apartment building with 21 residentials, voted the world s best housing in We did not just cut holes in the old square concrete silo, it would both provide a much too expensive facade and small enclosed spaces. The apartments have four facades, so you can see all the way around. There are very large window sections from floor to ceiling throughout the appartment. The residents enter into the immediate vicinity of the landscape and the unique views of the location, says Julian Weyer Large sliding doors contributes to the villa-like experience. The resident slides the door to the side and enters the large terrace of the apartment. It was all in all a challenge for us, that we wanted an abstract and refined, weightless lightness in the facade expression, which is echoed throughout the house. Therefore, we worked with free glass corners with no visible structures, large window surfaces and slender frame structures. We achieved a transparent lightness, seen from both outside and inside. At the same time this lightness, creates a contrast to the body weight of the silo.
