II. Highlighted Projects & Photographs Allison Hill II Location: Description: Rehab Number of Units: 29 units Occupant: Rentals Completion Date: 2000 Total Investment: $4,568,000 Allison Hill II focused on the revitalization of the blighted, abandoned and unsafe buildings in the area of 13 th and Derry Streets. The project has been successful in attracting business investments, H&R Block, for example, and residency in the community through mixed-use occupancy. This large-scale project helped to stabilize the corner of 13 th and Derry Streets and transform the area into a more lively, cleaner, safer and more attractive place to live and conduct business. 5

Capitol Corridors Location: Description: Rehab Number of Units: 73 units Occupant: Homeowners Completion Date: 1993-Present Total Investment: $8,000,000 Capitol City Corridors is an on-going project focused on improving residential districts along major thoroughfares of the South Allison Hill section of Harrisburg. Currently in its third phase, Capitol Corridors has been successful in eliminating eyesores while preserving the historic architectural character of the neighborhoods in South Allison Hill on Derry, 13 th, 17 th, Market and Swatara Streets. All of the properties that are identified for rehabilitation are abandoned or in a state of serious disrepair due to leaking roofs, rotten framing and/or general neglect. Each house receives extensive structural repairs as well as the installation of completely new systems, including electrical and mechanical, and finishes. Tri-County HDC has won several Historic Harrisburg awards, recognizing excellent historic preservation work, for these projects. Best of all, this project makes homeownership a realistic, affordable and attractive option for residents of South Allison Hill and significantly contributes to the neighborhood s ongoing revitalization. 6

Lease/Purchase Project Location: Description: Rehab Number of Units: 6 homes Occupant: Homeowners Completion Date: 1993 Total Investment: $360,000 The Lease/Purchase program was developed to help Harrisburg residents transition from renting an apartment to owning a home. In order to make the process as seamless as possible, qualified Section 8 housing applicants were counseled by the Housing Counselor at the Community Action Commission to teach them the skills needed to own a home. Six houses on Emerald and 7 th Streets in Harrisburg were acquired and remodeled for this purpose. Tri- County HDC received a Pillars of the Community Award for this project. 7

Summit Terrace Location: Description: Number of Units: Occupant: New Construction, Rehab 19 homes Homeowners Through three different phases, the Summit Terrace housing projects have invested in a depressed neighborhood where no new homes were built for 40 years. Summit Terrace Phase I built 11 new row homes on Linden Street. Phase 2 constructed new duplex homes on Balm and Walnut Streets. The Summit Terrace Rehab project was also able to revitalize two existing homes on Balm Street and Summit Street. In partnership with the Summit Terrace Neighborhood Association, Tri-County HDC has increased the desirable housing stock, reduced neighborhood density, created off-street parking, all the while making homeownership an affordable option for the residents of this neighborhood in Harrisburg. 9
