The Giddings field is a large oil field which extends through Brazos, Burleson, and Lee Counties in addition to Fayette. It s characterized by low permeability; despite this, the formation has large pockets of abundant natural vertical fracturing. These pockets are typically where the best Austin Chalk acreage is located, but the natural rock fracturing can be enhanced through hydraulic fracturing to allow for even greater production.
