3 p a g e 3 C u l t u r a l S e s s i o n s On Monday, April 1 st 2013, the students of the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures had the special chance to meet Professor Angelo Manitta, President of the International Academy Il Convivio Castiglione di Sicilia, who talked about the activity of this important cultural center and about the aesthetic contacts and influences between Romanian and Italian poetry and prose. The Conference was chaired by Assoc. Professor Dr. Otilia Borcia who introduced Prof. Manitta.

5 p a g e 5 O u r P r o f e s s o r s A c t i v i t i e s This year marks the 50 th anniversary of Rayuela ( Hopscotch ), the seminal novel of Julio Cortazar ( ), who belongs, with Jorge Luis Borges and Adolfo Bioy Casares, to the Golden Pleiades of Argentinian prose. The Modern Art Center in Madrid marked the event with a series of activities in February exhibitions, movies and a symposium on the theme of Cortazar s translation in foreign languages, where our Assoc. Professor Tudora Şandru Mehedinţi was invited to participate, as the translator of seven of his novels. It is worthy to note that her 1998 translation of Hopscotch into Romanian (reprinted at Polirom in 2005 and 2008) won the Prize for the Best Translation awarded by the Romanian Writer s Union, in The moderator of the Symposium held on the 19 th of February was a famous specialist of Julio Cortazar s literature, Mariángeles Fernández. The Iraqi essayist and translator Abdul Hadi Sadoum had an equally interesting contribution. The Symposium was honored by the presence of important cultural personalities and an enthusiastic audience from Madrid.

They offered demonstrations on making kanzashi (hair ornaments) and origami (art of paper folding), as well as presentations on street fashion and Harajuku fashion in today s Japan.
