6 A LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT Dear Alumni and Friends, As I enter my eighth year of service to Arcadia University and my third year as President, I have never been more optimistic about Arcadia s future. When the Strategic Plan was approved in 2013, it was imperative that the priority for the University was to address Theme 4: Improving the University s Resources, Financial Processes, and Infrastructure. Through strategic budgeting, optimal resource allocation, prudent fiduciary management, and input and support from everyone within the Arcadia community, we have helped to stabilize and strengthen the University s financial position. This has enabled us to make significant strides in expanding the quality of the academic experience as well as enriching services for Arcadia s students. While the higher education climate is more complex than ever before, we at Arcadia maintain our focus that has served us through time: providing students with the distinctive educational experience that is the hallmark of Arcadia University. Campus life never has been more robust; incoming classes keep raising the bar academically; and current students continue to humble us with their extraordinary achievements. Some of these recent student efforts include providing comprehensive eye care to Ghanaian communities in need, being named to national Academic All-America teams as distinguished student-athletes, or developing award-winning business plans through an international student business program. Each member of the Arcadia community, from faculty and staff to alumni and donors to families and friends, plays a direct and integral role in the success of the University and in helping us provide the outstanding educational experience that is unique to Arcadia. Your support makes this possible. On behalf of Arcadia University, I want to express my deepest gratitude for your generosity. Whether you are a graduate, an active member of the Arcadia University Alumni Association, or a friend of the University, we hope you visit often and enjoy the splendor of campus. No matter your connection to Arcadia, we understand that your support is a testament to your belief in its mission and that inspires us to strive for excellence. Sincerely, Nicolette DeVille Christensen, M.B.A., Ph.D. President 2 ANNUAL REPORT

10 GATEWAY SOCIETY The Gateway Society was introduced in 2011 as Arcadia s highest giving level for the Annual Fund. Membership includes those whose gifts total $25,000 or more each year. These funds are used to make investments and support strategic University projects, including innovative research programs, the development of new academic initiatives, the acquisition of cutting-edge technology and lab equipment, and internships and scholarships for talented students. Rosemary Deniken Blankley 57, 06H and Walter E. Blankley Patricia Kind John D. and Theresa P. Rollins Elizabeth and Gerald B. Rorer Madeline Johnson Stein 68 and Isaac Stein 11H M. Fredric Rieders 80, Ph.D., and Marian D. Rieders Theresa Rollins, a former member of the Board of Trustees Executive Committee, and her husband, John, joined Arcadia s Gateway Society with a gift to support the creation of the Commons Art Gallery Curator position. The idea came to fruition after several conversations with Arcadia Art Gallery Director Richard Torchia. Mr. and Mrs. Rollins have been loyal benefactors to the University and great supporters of the arts at Arcadia. Their contributions have made several art exhibitions at Arcadia possible, and their son, David, is an artist. Matthew Borgen, Arcadia s exhibition coordinator, established the Art Research Collaboration (ARC) Exhibition Program, which demonstrates the inherently mutual benefit of cross-disciplinary efforts between the campus art community and other University departments, as well as with other academic institutions, both local and international. The exhibitions produced represent an alternative to the traditional modes of presenting academic research. Commons Art Gallery is an open, highly trafficked exhibition space located near the main entrance of the University Commons. This venue, as well as the Great Room Lobby, hosts exhibitions created by the ARC Program. 6 ANNUAL REPORT Every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of each listing. 18 LIFETIME GIVING SOCIETIES Arcadia University has established three societies to recognize donors who have demonstrated leadership through their lifetime giving, including outright gifts, pledges, and planned gift intentions for all restricted and unrestricted purposes. This extraordinary grant from Susan Jackson Tressider and The Fourjay Foundation is yet another testament to The Eugene W. and Marie-Louise Jackson International Fund for Student and Faculty Development will provide scholarships for Arcadia students to gain international context in STEM fields. how deeply the Jackson family has believed in the mission of Beaver College and Arcadia University, said President Nicolette DeVille Christensen. For decades, Marie- Louise, Eugene, Susan, and Geoffrey have been staunch supporters, and their guidance, leadership, and generosity have made a monumental impact on the lives of Arcadians. Expanding international experiences for students and faculty will build upon the legacy of Arcadia and ensure that this university remains a preeminent university with a long-heralded global mission. In addition to earning a bachelor s degree in English and a master s degree in counseling psychology, Jackson Tressider served on Arcadia s Board of Trustees and its Campaign Steering Committee. Her husband, Richard, earned a master s degree in education at Arcadia in 1990, while her mother, Marie-Louise Jackson, served as a Trustee and taught French at Arcadia. Of course, this is what research and creative processes are all about the thrill of moving beyond the edges of our thinking and understanding into unchartered territory. Dr. Skilton-Sylvester s project is using the arts and narrative analysis to expand local and global civic education at Arcadia and across community contexts in the Philadelphia region, the Midwest, the South, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East. 34 ANNUAL REPORT

I had such a great experience as a Physical Therapy doctoral student. The best part of Arcadia was being able to utilize the beautiful facilities, especially the library. For me, Arcadia was a comfortable space that felt like home. It s a nice little haven conducive to learning. While in the PT program, I was able to travel to Arequipa, Peru, to help provide PT services to the community. It was such a powerful experience to practice clinical skills while learning to be sensitive to a new culture. Immersing myself in a different cultural environment helped me to grow as a PT and provided me lessons that I will take with me throughout my career and life in general. It was important for me to give to the Charles Magistro International Pro Bono Experiential Learning Program so that someone else has the opportunity to have a similar experience and to be able to learn from it, as I did. 38 ANNUAL REPORT

51 FY2015 Thank you. We at Arcadia University express our deepest thanks and appreciation to all those who give so generously. Your support enables the University to continue to offer the robust academic programs and transformative international experiences for which Arcadia is known. ^ Deceased Class + Member Fund Agents Knight in Society red * Matching Gift ANNUAL REPORT 47

52 WAYS TO GIVE There are several ways to give to Arcadia University. You can offer support through: Stock that has appreciated in value and is owned more than a year offers the tax benefit of avoiding capital gains tax on the appreciation and may qualify for an income tax charitable deduction. A donor-advised fund allows you to recommend annual grants to benefit Arcadia. Many fund administrators allow you to sign a letter of intent expressing your interest in supporting the University for more than one year. A charitable gift annuity allows you to make a gift that pays income for life to one or two individuals. Payments are fixed and can be deposited directly to your checking account. A minimum gift of $10,000 is required, and annuitant(s) must be age 60 or older. An IRA Charitable Rollover up to $100,000 (for individuals age 70½ or older) may provide a tax advantage if you do not need the income for the required minimum distribution. A matching gift increases the value of your gift at no additional cost to you, allowing you to double or triple the impact of your gift. Use our online search program matchinggifts.com/arcadia to see if your gift to Arcadia is eligible. A pledge is an ideal way to honor a special Reunion year. The University accepts pledges for up to five years and sends reminder notices on the schedule you request. A secure online gift or pledge can be completed by visiting arcadia.edu/gift using your Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover Card. You will receive a confirmation via and a receipt, mailed separately. Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) is a giving program that allows donors to make their gift to Arcadia in automatic monthly installments from a checking or savings account or a credit card. arcadia.edu/waystogive A gift of cash or check can be put to immediate use by the University through the Annual Fund. Your time and expertise. Serve as a class or fund agent, help organize or host events, mentor students, and open professional doors for interns and classes. Arcadia s volunteers ensure that thousands of students are able to continue to earn a quality education and prepare to become tomorrow s citizens and leaders. For more specific details or assistance with any gift, please call University Advancement at or advancement@arcadia.edu. Through the Alumni Career Mentor Program, you have the opportunity to be matched with current Arcadia students and other alumni based on similar interests, majors, geographic location, and career goals. Visit arcadia.edu/ alumnimentor to find out how you can get involved. 48 ANNUAL REPORT
