13 Helen Hill the humble and pious wife of Richard Hill Rector died July 7th and was buried July 10th. She gave to the Church of Thurcaston a silver flagon and plate for the use of the Holy Communion. The weight of the silver flagon is 39 oz and 2 pennyweight. The weight of the plate is 15 oz 11 pennyweight. Each of them has upon it one and the same inscription word for word as follows: Thurcaston To God and His Church this is humbly dedicated by Mrs Helen Hill, wife of Ric Hill, Rector May 22nd, 1712 When God first sent me, Rich. Hill to be Rector of this Church there was in it an old small thin silver cup which was much worn and had in the mouth of it several slits. It had on it no inscription nore date. 17 Memorand that this religious man solmenly declared more than once to me and others that to his own great comfort he had never been once absent from the Publick Worship of God upon any one Lord's day, morning or evening during the time of his being Parish Clerk who was more than 31 yerars, viz. from his father's death in 1690 to his own resigning of the sacred office upon June 18th 1721 when William Tilley the first Master of my Charity School succeeded him to it. And it is my earnest request to every one of my successors that they will be careful to choose such a man to be Master of my School as they know to be also fit to be Parish Clerk and that they will then be pleased to put him into both Offices of Schoolmaster and Clerk.
