Conditions of eligibility: cooperation with child support, participation in work activities and compliance with substance abuse provisions. Earned and unearned income cannot exceed the benefit level paid for the assistance unit size and assets are limited to $2, Sanctions may be imposed for not complying with program requirements. Rental Assistance Program (RAP) (410) Each county in Maryland has one. Purpose = provide grants to local governments to provide flat rent subsidies to low-income families who either are homeless or have an emergency housing need. Goal = enable these households to move from homelessness or temporary emergency housing into more permanent housing and to return to self-sufficiency. Eligible Residents: low-income families who are homeless, in danger of becoming homeless, or in need of emergency housing. Incomes of assisted households cannot exceed 30 percent of the statewide or area median income, whichever is higher. Project Home A state-wide program that is based on the adult foster care model for adults with disabilities. Eligibility: adults age 18 or above, who have a disability and who are willing and able to live in a family setting are eligible to apply. Most residents receive financial assistance. Documentation f disability, income and functional capability will be requires. Social Security Administration Information, referral and scheduling at the closest local Social Security Office for Social Security (SSA), Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Medicare benefits. Shore Up (in Eastern Region) (410) It is a Community Action Partnership whose mission is to aid and empower individuals and families who, because of age, disability, or economic conditions, cannot, unaided, move toward self-sufficiency. O t h e r H o u s i n g R e s o u r c e s Electric Universal Service Program (EUSP) A state program that is administered by the Department of Human Resources to assist eligible low-income electric customers with their electric bills. Eligible electric customers may receive help in to pay current electric bills, pay past due electric bills and help with energy efficiency measures to reduce future electric bills. Utility Service Protection Program (USPP) Protects low-income families from utility cut-offs and allows MEAP (Maryland Energy Assistant Program) eligible households to enter into a year-round even monthly payment program with their utility company. Maryland Rural Development Corporation (MRDC) (410) Identifies and responds to the human service and community development needs of eligible individuals, families and communities in Maryland to improve the general human condition. Somerset County Community & Technical Assistance (410) Rental Assistance Program (RAP) providing monthly subsidy towards rent if the criteria s are met. Call for an application. Somerset County Urban Ministries (410) Food Pantry: Open Tuesday and Thursday 10am - 2pm. Must bring an ID. Individuals can only receive food items once a month. Financial Assistance: Tuesday and Thursday 10:00am - 1:30pm. Help with eviction prevention and move in cost. Must bring ID, disconnect or signed eviction novice, and copies of all monthly expenses. Salvation Army (410) The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. It s mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination. The Salvation Army is already seeing large increases in the number of Americans seeking the basic necessities of life - food, shelter, and warmth. Housing Counseling Services, Inc. (HCS) (202) HCS administers Metropolitan Housing Access Program (MHAP) which is the centralized source for housing services and housing information for persons living with HIV/AIDS in the District of Columbia and Prince George s County and Charles Counties in Maryland.
