INDIAN RIVER COUNTY/CITY OF VERO BEACH BUILDING DIVISION 1801 27 th Street, Vero Beach, FL 32960 772 226-1260 ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT SLABS August 24, 2018 Per the Building Official, effective immediately, a licensed electrical contractor is allowed to site-fabricate a concrete slab that is related to his electrical equipment only. The following minimum requirements shall apply: 1. CONCRETE SLAB: a. Electrical contractor is allowed to install a pre-fabricated slab or a site-fabricated slab for electrical equipment as long as the footing size does not exceed 3 ½ inches in depth. b. Slab must be sized and installed per equipment manufacturer s requirements. Where no such requirements exist from the manufacturer, the slab must be installed per the following minimum specifications: i. Concrete must be a minimum of 2,500 PSI and 3 ½ inch minimum thickness. ii. Slab must be placed on clean compacted soil. The slab area must be level and free of debris and vegetation. iii. Top of slab must be 3 inches minimum above grade in accordance with FBC Mech 304.10 in flood zones X, and a minimum of 12 inches above base flood elevation in other flood zones. iv. A building permit will be required for the slab if the manufacturers specifications or flood zone issues require a footing or stem wall which exceeds 3 ½ inches in depth. v. Where slab conditions deviate from these conditions, the slab must be engineered and installed by a properly licensed contractor under a separate permit. vi. Equipment must be anchored to withstand wind pressures in accordance with Florida Building Code. 2. INSPECTIONS: a. A picture of the forms must be taken and placed in the permit box together with the equipment manufacturer installation instructions. The picture must indicate the Permit number and must include identifiable jobsite features. NOTICE: A SEPARATE FUEL TANK PERMIT IS REQUIRED for natural, propane, or any other fuel type. 1
