! HIGH RISES! VS.! TOWNHOUSES! BY: KAT EASTWICK BY: KAT EASTWICK

HIGH RISES- NEIGHBORS/ COMPANY In high rises, you have LOTS of neighbors and company leaving or coming into the building. Plus, for most high rises, there are doormen who you usually become friends with. In my opinion high rises are better than townhouses in terms of neighbors because you could have friends in your building and you might not be as lonely. Unless of course, you like to be alone. Also, as you can see in the picture (left door is my apartment) you will have VERY close neighbors.

TOWNHOUSE- NEIGHBORS/ COMPANY Unlike high rises, in townhouses, you will most likely have no very close neighbors. But, in some townhouses, someone might have the bottom floor and someone might have the top floor. Unless it is like that, you will have no close neighbors. If you like quiet, you will like townhouses better. There will still be noises from outside, but it is less likely you will hear a phone ring through the wall or a doorbell.

TIE High rises: 1 Townhouses: 1

m HIGH RISES- CONVENIENCE High rises and apartments are definitely convenient. In most, there are doormen to get your mail/ packages. Also, as I said before, you usually have a good relationship with your doormen. Also, on most streets there are shops and markets, so when you need some milk you can just go downstairs and there is usually one close by. As you can see in the lower picture, it is of a nail salon and a deli below a apartment building. That proves that apartments are very convenient because it has stores very close by.

TOWNHOUSE- CONVENIENCE I don t think townhouses are that convenient. I don t think they are convenient because on streets with townhouses, it is usually just townhouses. Unlike apartments, where there are shops sometimes below the building. You might have to go a few blocks to get groceries. Also, townhouses don t have doormen, so if you have your hands full (perhaps from coming back from the grocery store, carrying everything because you don t want to take two trips) there will be no one to open the door for you. Therefore, high rises are more convenient than townhouses.

HIGH RISES WINS!!!!!! High rises: 2 Townhouse: 1

HIGH RISES- BALCONIES/ ROOFTOPS Most high rises have balconies/ rooftops (gardens). The ones I chose to take picture of, have interesting ones and stylish ones. On Park Ave., there are a lot of beautiful rooftops and interesting balconies. Most townhouses have little balconies where you could plant some flowers and a roof that you could put some chairs on, but apartments have big balconies (usually) and big roofs that you could throw parties on, or have a giant rooftop garden. But, the only downside of apartment rooftops is that you might have to share it with other people in the building. Also, if you have a balcony that is facing the street, you could have BEAUTIFUL scenery of NYC streets.

TOWNHOUSE- BALCONIES/ ROOFTOPS Some townhouses have small, cute balconies. Also, they usually have a pretty big roof that you could have a little lounge area on. The picture on the right is of a townhouse with several mini balconies with plants in them. Some townhouses don t even have balconies OR rooftops you can use. Therefore, apartments have better rooftops/ balconies than townhouses.

HIGH RISES WIN!!!

OPINION/ CONCLUSION My opinion on this topic is that high rises are better. The reason I think this might be because I have lived in high rises my whole life or maybe it s because I am not fond of townhouses. I personally like listening to cars and phone calls from other people on my building, and in townhouses, it will be less likely to hear those things. In the beginning, I did not know which was going to win and I definitely did not make it so high rises would win. If you think about it, in the two categories that apartments won in, townhouses couldn't have won even if I tried to make them win. The first category was based off other peoples opinion so it was a tie, otherwise high rises won fairly. Anyway, in my opinion high rises would be better to me even if they lost.
