Generation 5 (con't) Birth year from 1849 to 1853. DT Hays and MA Ragsdale married 9 Oct 1849. 1850 census 2 Aug 1850 shows DT and MA but no Wm S. Wm Daily born 27 Dec 1852. 1870 census. This may have been where Wm. S went when he shot the black slave boy. Mary who was too old unless she fibbed on her age was with him and missing from census in David T household. Unproven at this time. 1870 census. This may be more likely, seems to be a boarding house in Prairie Edgar Ill. where he did farm labor. James P Hays brother to David T Hays (father of Wm S.) lived in Prairie Edgar Ill. until his death in 1886. 1880 census. This matches to information from Virginia 8/6/1977 that states Grandpa had trouble with slave and killed him, left KY and went to MO. Unproven at this time This is from Prewitt book that states Wm S killed when a team of horses took off and he fell on a fence post. Also states his parents were David T Hays and Mary Ann Ragsdale birth year 1853. One family member thought he died from appendicitis or cancer.
