DESCRIPTION Gallery House is an exciting, contemporary design by the award winning practice Hall McKnight Architects from Belfast. The house is composed as a light, rendered cluster of forms that establish a varied range of relationships to the surroundings. These rest on top of a contrasting ground floor base characterised by darker charcoal-coloured brick walls which ground the house to the landscape and offer a more intimate series of spaces to supplement the lofty openness of the upper levels. The ground floor, characterised with darker finishes, houses 4 bedrooms, some utility spaces and a generous circulation and living space with generous views out over the private garden. The quality of the upper level is lighter and more open as it addresses views out over the golf course to distant mountains. This level houses a generous open plan sequence of spaces (living space, dining room and kitchen) with a study in the gallery above. Whilst an open plan atmosphere prevails, each space is articulated in a distinct way with subtly differing orientation to views and daylight. The master bedroom suite is to the east, linked to the living space by the terraces and a corridor, but with its own private stairway. The informally sculpted form of the upper block is smaller in area than the base, thereby creating a series of external terraces. 8
