PROSPECTUS 2018

PROSPECTUS 2 The ArchiFlix Architecture & Design Film Festival celebrates the unique creative spirit that drives architecture and design. With a curated selection of films, events and panel discussions, AADFF creates an opportunity to entertain, engage and educate industry professionals who are excited about architecture and design. The screenings are enthusiastically supported by design professionals and thought leaders who contribute to vibrant discussions. 2018 will see the festival hosted in Sydney and Melbourne, with satellite events in Brisbane, Adelaide, Hobart, and Perth. The AADFF is supported by the Design Institute of Australia and the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects, and sponsored by manufacturers who contribute to the growth of the design industry.

FILMS 3 Curated by Creative Director Ron Brown (Executive Producer of ArchiTel TV), and a Producer and Director of more than 200 architectural and design features, this bespoke selection of films will represent the finest and most sought after Australian and international architecture and design films available globally. Final selections will be made by the Curator of the festival in conjunction with an advisory board, with the final selection to be announced soon. Both new releases and classic architecture and design films will be featured in the program. The following are 3 key selection films proposed for the festival, along with others currently submitted for review: The Competition A raw account of how some of the best architects in the world, design giants like Jean Nouvel, Frank Gehry and Zaha Hadid, struggle to beat the competition for the National Museum of Art in Andorra. Eero Saarinen: The Architect Who Saw the Future An architectural giant who envisioned the future. His sudden death at age 51 cut short one of the most influential legacies in American architecture. Where Architects Live The diary of an exploration in the private places of 8 protagonists of world architecture: Daniel Libeskind, Zaha Hadid, Shigeru Ban, Mario Bellini, David Chipperfield, Massimiliano Fuksas, Marcio Kogan, and Studio Mumbai.

Rem Koolhaas An engaging portrait of a visionary man that takes us to the heart of his ideas. A visually inventive, thought-provoking portrait prompting Rem Koolhaas to state, It s the only film about me that I have liked. 4 SuperDesign Retracing the Italian Radical Movement in Architecture & Design in the 1960 s and 70 s through the words and stories of people who were part of a revolutionary time where everything seemed possible. The Museum on the Mountain A Japanese mother and daughter wish to start an art museum with their collection. The location is a nature preserve deep in the Japanese mountains. I.M. Pei is contracted as the architect. The Diplomat, The Artist and The Suit Delve into the extraordinary work of acclaimed Australian architects Bill Corker, Barrie Marshall & John Denton, from designing modern cityscapes to creating the Australian pavilion at Venice Biennale.

SPEAKERS & JURIES 5 In addition to the screenwriters and film producers of our new release films, a selection of speakers, panel members and Q&A participants will be invited from leading practices. In 2017 the ArchiFlix Festival involved a broad selection of the architecture profession, who have embraced the Festival as a great service to the profession, and a very worthwhile cultural initiative in it s own right. The Sydney ArchiFlix Festival empanelled a Jury of leading practitioners that included Ken Maher (President of the AIA), Professor Michael Tawa (Sydney University), John Gollings (one of the world s best architectural photographers) and Jan Henderson (leading design industry journalist and editor). As well, the Sydney event hosted the following filmmakers and architects to it s Q&A program, including Penelope Seidler (architect, Seidler and Associates), Daryl Dellora (Director of Edge of the Possible and Harry Seidler - Modernist ) and John Weiley (writer and director, Autopsy On A Dream, the lost Opera House film). The Melbourne ArchiFlix Festival features again Daryl Dellora, John Weiley and in addition Sally Aitken (writer and director of Getting Frank Gehry ), John Gollings (the subject of film Eye For Architecture ), Catherine Hunter (writer and Director of Glenn Murcutt - Spirit of Place ), and architect Hakan Elevli (coarchitect with Glenn Murcutt). The panel discussion Inspiring Women Architects will follow the screening of Zaha Hadid - Who Dares Wins, and will feature leading Melbourne women architects Shelley Penn (former President of the AIA), Amy Muir, Sarah Naarden and Iranian-born landscape architect Targol Khorram (President of Architects For Peace). It will be moderated by Jan Henderson, co-editor of Inside magazine. The Melbourne 2017 ArchiFlix Jury includes Prof Leon van Schaik (RMIT), Prof Hannah Lewi (Melbourne Uni), architectural photographer Dianna Snape and Editor-in-Chief of Architecture Media Australia, Cameron Bruhn. 2018 will see an increased program of talks, panels and Q&A s, and will also include an innovative Short Film Competition with generous cash prizes.
