Residence Halls Conveniently located on both City and East campuses, our 16 residence halls offer a safe, welcoming home for every student. Each residence hall complex offers a unique living experience. Although most halls are on City Campus, you might be interested in accommodations in the Massengale Residential Center on East Campus, which is open to all freshmen and upperclass students. All halls are coed except Love Memorial Cooperative. Floors in other halls are designated all female or all male; except Abel Hall, which has separated coed floors, and selected floors in Selleck Hall. In addition, suite-style and apartment-style halls have coed floors. All traditional hall rooms will be single-gender (based on gender identity). All suites will be single-gender (based on gender identity), and each floor may include a mixture of male and female suites. Learn more about the gender inclusive policy: go.unl.edu/gender. All residence halls at Nebraska are tobacco-free, vapor-free and smoke-free. First-come, first-served policy While there are no deadlines for submitting a housing contract, all completed contracts will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Once a contract is signed, it is a legally binding document and is subject to cancellation fees. It is in the student s best interest to be absolutely certain that they will live in the university residence hall before completing a housing contract. If, for example, a student decides to live in a fraternity or sorority after signing a contract or if anticipated financial aid is not granted, etc., cancellation fees will still apply. If you are under the age of 18 when you complete your contract, a parent or guardian must co-sign as a guarantor. By affixing his/ her signature as a co-signer and guarantor, the parent or guardian acknowledges responsibility for payment of room, meal plan, and other fees under the conditions of this contract should the student default on payment. 2

3 Eligibility Students must be enrolled in at least six credit hours of on-campus UNL classes and be fully admitted to UNL in order to live in university residence halls. NEW FRESHMEN (UNL Classification) New freshmen students are eligible to live in traditional-style rooms and the four-person, double-bedroom suites (shared bedroom). New freshmen will not be permitted to move into the four-person, single-bedroom suites or apartment-style units during their first year on campus. Apartment-style units; four-person, singlebedroom suites (individual bedrooms); and a limited number of four-person, double-bedroom suites (shared bedroom) are reserved for upperclass students, or non-traditional freshmen ready for a more independent living environment. UPPERCLASS GRADUATE NON-TRADITIONAL STUDENTS The Courtyards, Village and apartments-style units in the Massengale Residential Center are designed for upperclass, graduate or non-traditional students who are ready for a more independent living environment. To qualify for the upperclass suites (single bedrooms) and/or apartment-style units, a student must: Have previously lived in a UNL residence hall, or Be a newly admitted transfer student, or Be a non-traditional student Learning Communities Learning Communities: (800)742-8800, ext 7128 (402)472-7128 learncom.unl.edu There are Learning Communities at Nebraska designed specifically for First-Year and Upperclass students. Students in First-Year Learning Communities will have a one-time $95 charge on their September bill for their Learning Community. The deadline to sign up for a Learning Community is May 1. Please note, Learning Communities are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Honors Program For information on the Honors Program, which resides in the Neihardt Residence Center, please call (402)472-5425. Dining & Meal Plan Options For information on University Dining Services and meal plan options, please visit go.unl.edu/dining.

On-campus Residency Requirement 4 All unmarried students who are enrolled for seven or more credit hours, and who are under the age of 19 prior to the first day of the fall semester of the current academic year are required to reside in on-campus housing. This policy is in effect for the entire academic year. For more information visit housing.unl.edu/residency-requirements. Family Housing Students who are married and/or have custody of children can contact Family Housing at (402)472-3753 or (800)742-8800, ext. 3753; or view family housing options at housing.unl.edu. Family living is not allowed in the residence halls. Students with Disabilities University Housing is committed to providing accommodation to students with disabilities in the residence halls. Students who require reasonable accommodation must have an accommodation plan issued by the Services for Students with Disabilities Office. In order to ensure that appropriate arrangements can be made, students with disabilities who need reasonable accommodation in the residence halls must contact the Director of Services for Students with Disabilities at (402)472-3787 by May 15 (for the fall semester) or October 15 (for spring semester). Returning Student Discount (RSD) The returning student discount program reduces the cost for traditional residence hall room and meal plan. The returning student discount does not apply to suite-style and apartment-style halls. To qualify for a RSD for the next academic year, you must meet the following conditions: 1. Live in the residence halls for the entire spring semester of the prior academic year, and 2. Live in the residence halls for the entire academic year represented by the contract. The returning student discount credit is associated with your assignment at the time the discount is posted. RSDs will be applied to the centralized billing account in February. The RSD program is renewable by University Housing on an annual basis. While the returning student discount does not apply to suite-style and apartment-style halls, occupancy in those halls will count as a residency year in earning discounts to be applied to traditional hall rates in subsequent years. Break Housing Students needing housing over university breaks must select the designated break housing residence halls. Students who select and reside in halls that close over the break periods will not have access to their rooms during university breaks. In addition, some services such as suite- and apartment-style unit bathroom cleaning and hall front desk hours will be limited or unavailable during breaks.
