Santa Lucia School News Second grade student receives the Sacrament of Reconciliation from Father Nick Marro, Pastor of Santa Lucia. The Santa Lucia second grade class received the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Wednesday, February 23rd at Santa Lucia Church. Second grade teacher, Mrs. Stephanie Rodriguez has been preparing the class for this important Sacrament with Pastoral Assistant, Mrs. Josie Bertucci. Each second grader had a part in the Mass, making the ceremony very special. During the service, the parents presented their child with a Reconciliation pin that was blessed by Pastor Father Nick Marro. Together they then lit a unity candle in front of the statue of St. Lucy. The students commented on how anxious and excited they were before the evening began. The children later said they felt closer to God and knew that Jesus loved them. This marks the 50th class to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation at Santa Lucia. Santa Lucia Schools theme for Lent is Walk the Walk. The students are learning that they can walk with Jesus and bring him their troubles, worries and concerns. -PARTISANARTISAN INDEPENDENT NEWSPAPER SERVING BRIDGEPORT,, CANARYVILLEC ANARYVILLE,, ARMOURA RMOUR SQUARE,, CHINATOWNC HINATOWN, M Upcoming Events at St. Mary of Perpetual Help Please join us on Sunday, March 20 at 11:30 a.m. for our ST. It has six arts areas: dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography and visual arts with four grade divisions: primary, intermediate, middle/junior, and senior. St. Patrick s Day St. Patrick s Day is finally here I ve been waiting for so long every year they have a parade with Dancing, Marching & Song. We sit along the curbside when they come down the street, and when the band comes by it makes everything complete. The floats are fixed up pretty with shamrocks all in green, each year they re getting better and bigger that I ever seen. I can see the end is coming, we applaud as it goes past, maybe next year it ll be longer, then it won t be over so fast. Lowe will host an Open House for the 2011-2012 school year on Wednesday, March 16, 2011, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The school has provided the very best in Catholic education for generations of families in a small, caring community. The school has accreditations from the State of Illinois and the Archdiocese of Chicago. Our motto is Learn to Love Love to Learn! Our school is Catholic. We believe that all children should develop a sense of justice, compassion and love. Our students attend weekly school masses and family masses are held throughout the year. There are many service opportunities to help others. A dedicated staff emphasizes the importance of becoming life-long learners. This year our school began using the Promethean White Board System. This is a state of the art program that makes available over 100,000 different subject lessons. This technology will prepare our students for the demands of the 2lst Century. However, our school recognizes the need for a strong core curriculum of basic subjects. In addition to these basic areas, special classes include Spanish, Physical Ed and computers. The fine arts program include: weekly art and music classes, band instruction and a children's choir. A student musical concert, the children's choir and fine arts performances are held throughout the school year. The Pre-Kindergarten program is open to 3 and 4 year olds. Our Pre-Kindergarten program introduces basic skills through hands on activities and social interaction. These teachers have Illinois State Teacher certificates in Early Childhood Education. A child must turn three or four before September 1. Parents may choose either a morning session or a full day sessions. The Title 1 Tutoring Program is available, as well as a school counselor. There are numerous extracurricular activities. A before and after school care program is provided for those parents, who need extended care for their children. There is a comprehensive sports program. An onsite gym provides a wide variety of athletic programs, which includes basketball, football, volleyball and cheerleading. There are tournaments for basketball and volleyball. For more information about Bridgeport Catholic Academy please call our principal, Mrs. Lillian Buckley at 773-376-6223 for a personal tour. 11th Ward Announces White Sox Residential Parking Program 773-247-8606 BRIDGEPORT NEWS - Page 3 PLEASE BE AWARE THAT PARKING MATERIALS WILL NOT BE MAILED OUT THIS YEAR. THE MAN WHO ADVERTISES HIS BUSINESS HAS ONE Page 6 - BRIDGEPORT NEWS St. Barbara Students Prepare for Lent Chief Judge Evans Announces Women s History Month Courthouse Tour On Tuesday, March 8, the students and faculty gathered on the steps of St. Barbara Church to burn the palms that would be used on Ash Wednesday. Father Dennis Ziomek, pastor, introduced the tradition of burning the palms used at last year s Palm Sunday liturgy to create the ashes that will be used on Ash Wednesday. The students also learned that the marking of the forehead with ashes is a visible sign that they have chosen to be a follower of Christ. The student council also sponsored a bake sale to celebrate the tradition of Fat Tuesday. Circuit Court of Cook County Chief Judge Timothy C. Evans announced the Women s History Month Courthouse Tour of the Richard J. Daley Center at 50 West Washington Street, Chicago, will take place on Friday, March 25, 2011. Cosponsoring the tour with the Circuit Court is the Women s Bar Association of Illinois. The tour offers the public a sense of day-to-day operations of one of the nation s largest unified court systems. Tour highlights include a visit to a courtroom to observe a trial in progress, an informal presentation by a panel of women judges from the Circuit Court, and the opportunity to meet with bar association representatives. Persons attending also receive a copy of the court s informational guide which outlines the structure of the Circuit Court of Cook County, explains the basics of trial proceedings, and includes a directory of court and county resources. The Women s History Month Courthouse Tour is part of the court s year-round Community Heritage Month Courthouse Tour series, which combines public education activities with national and local observances marking racial and ethnic diversity. Tours are also held during Black History Month, Arab-American Heritage Month, Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, Italian Heritage Month, Latino/Hispanic Heritage Month, Polish Heritage Month, and on Puerto Rican Heritage Day. The tours have been attended by thousands of Cook County residents. Individuals or groups planning on attending the Women s History Month Courthouse Tour should contact Milissa Pacelli, of the Circuit Court of Cook County s Public Affairs Office, at 312-603-1927 on or before Monday, March 21, 2011. The tour is limited to persons age ten and older, with a maximum of 35 persons to a group. Reservations are recommended. The tour will depart at 10 a.m. from the Daley Center s west lobby located on the Randolph and Clark Streets side of the building. For more information about other courthouse tours and general information on the Circuit Court of Cook County, visit www.cookcountycourt.org.
