This attractive bluebell wood, which is in two sections, has a pleasant feel and some rather unusual wildlife in the form of giant rabbits. The wood enjoys direct access from the county highway and is for the most part flat and easily walked. The spring flush of bluebells is excellent and these early colours complement the hawthorn and cherry blossoms. Throughout the wood there are small clearings and, as such, it provides a perfect site for those wanting amenity use. The species present are diverse and include oak, sycamore, hazel, holly and rowan. There is a pleasant mix of planting ages with young crops present in the western end of the wood. The wood has been carefully managed by the current owner and forms a local feature on the outskirts of the village of Christmas Common. The specimen trees are surrounded by well-established natural regeneration and a number of footpaths and tracks wind through the east of the wood. TAXATION After two years ownership, commercially managed woods qualify for 100% relief from Inheritance Tax. Timber sales are free of all Income Tax and do not attract Capital Gains Tax. In certain circumstances it is possible to roll-over Capital Gains into the proportion of the purchase price attributable to the value of the land.
