WSA is a design-focused practice that has been in business for more than thirty years. During this time, we have established ourselves as a firm that consistently produces top quality service over a broad range of project types including public buildings, and civic and institutional facilities. We have a proven track record of meeting budgetary and schedule requirements, and we are committed to maintaining a close and open working relationship with our clients. Library facilities, in particular, are an important of undertaking for our firm. Such projects offer an engaging design process, and provide rewarding results that extend beyond the enclosed space of a particular building. Over the years, we have designed library facilities for Freeport and Damariscotta and have worked closely with library staff from programming to move-in to produce exceptional results. We have also developed expertise in related design fields needed for today s projects - - Site Planning - including site development and planning for future expansions. LEED Plannning - with several LEED Gold and Platinum Certifications to our credit. Historic Preservation Design - our office has won repeated awards from Maine Preservation. The enclosed materials offer an overview of our qualifications, and highlight our experience developing successful design solutions suited to the specific needs and budgets of our clients. We look forward to having the opportunity to present some of our recent work to you in person, and to discuss how best to achieve your goals for this project. We are immediately available to work on new projects, and would appreciate your consideration. Sincerely, Mark M. Wilcox Maine Registered Architect, NCARB

Skidompha Library Damariscotta, Maine The new Skidompha Library is located on Main Street in Damariscotta alongside the historic Dixon House, a 19th century Federal Style house, and home of the library for 95 years. The site is at the east edge of the downtown business district where the architectural context transitions from largely three-story attached brick buildings to freestanding two-story, clapboarded, residential structures. The building consists of two two-story brick wings that run parallel to the street and define a central atrium space and an exterior courtyard behind the Dixon House. The main building facade sets back from the street in line with the residential structures to the east while a smaller scaled entry pavilion extends out to the line of the downtown masonry street wall. Bench height granite retaining walls flanking the entrance, and a brick walk leading to the courtyard, offer opportunities for people to sit and enjoy the street scene or escape to a more secluded garden space to read. Freeport Library Freeport, Maine The Freeport Library is located on a wooded site removed from the town s Main Street area. Because of the remoteness of the site, important design considerations were to make a building that created a sense of place, was inviting, and took advantage of the private, natural setting. The solution was to divide the various program elements - Adult collections, Children s collections, and Office/ Meeting spaces - into separate buildings loosely arranged around an outdoor courtyard and linked together by the main lobby. This approach created an interior with spatial variety, provided ample opportunity for open views to the woods, and gave the building a quality of having developed and grown over time like a town. Patrons approaching the building are greeted by a covered entry with natural wood ceiling flanked on one side by a curving brick wall that extends out to become a sitting bench at the exterior entry court. The curving form continues into the main lobby creating a link between the interior and exterior spaces. Client Reference: Beth Edmunds, Director T. 207.865.3307

Public Buidlings Winton Scott Architects West Bath District Court Sited adjacent to a major highway connecting two major population centers, this facility creates an uncommon new paradigm for a Courthouse: a civic edifice in a rural setting. The use of durable, time honored materials such as brick, lead coated copper and precast concrete, coupled with careful detailing, reinforces the image of a dignified public building. The project received an award for Design Excellence by the Maine chapter of the AIA and it was featured in Architecture magazine s Annual Review of American Architecture in May of 1994. Maine Maritime Museum Percy and Small Shipyard, Bath The historic Percy and Small Shipyard campus was reconfigured to provide public access to the new Museum and to Kennebec River. New buildings articulated into small scale units to be sympathetic to the scale of the historic buildings. This design was featured on the cover of a national Architectural publication and received an award for design excellence from the Maine chapter of the American Institute of Architects. Merrill Auditorium Additions and Renovations to City Hall Auditorium, Portland Winton Scott Architects were retained by the City of Portland to assemble a team of professional experts to correct long standingproblems of poor sightlines and inferior acoustics. WSA headed up a team who completed radical architectural and structural modifications to correct the problems. Today, Merrill Auditorium is widely regarded as one of the best concert halls in the country for acoustics and sightlines. The Merrill received an Award for Excellence in Design from the American Institute of Architects. Ocean Gateway International Ferry Terminal Eastern Waterfront, Portland Winton Scott Architects were retained by MDOT to develop the design for the new terminal building. Services provided included Urban Design, Site Planning, and Landscape design as well as Architectural design. Although Ferry service to Yarmouth Nova Scotia has been temporarily suspended, the Terminal space has been in great demand for large business meetings, wedding parties and all types of large group activities.
