Approved Minutes March 23, 2017, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Harriet Elizabeth Brown Community Center, 901 Dares Beach Road, Prince Frederick, MD 20678 Call to Order - Inez Claggett The regular meeting of the was called to order by Commission Chair Inez Claggett at 7:00 p.m. Attendance Inez Claggett Commissioners Present: Inez Claggett, Lisa Serafino, Margaret Dunkle, Joan Winship, Nadine Hunt, Carol Harvat, Stephanie Carter Associate Commissioner Present: Crystal Jordan, Katherine Marsh, Jackie Cutlip-Niles Commissioners Absent (Excused): Gloria Della, Suzanne Haynes, Ariane Odom Associate Commissioners Absent: Andria Smith, Brandi Tremmel Guest: Diane Bell Approval of Agenda The Commission approved by consensus the proposed agenda prepared by the Chair. See Attachment A. Prior Minutes, Approval Not all members had time to review the February Minutes; the approval will be postponed until the April meeting. Commissioner Dunkle suggested making adjustments to the November minutes, and the Commission approved the additions by consensus. Adjustments Insert: Celebrate Title IX Insert: Harriet Elizabeth Brown Commemoration Task Force (HEB) 3 additional attachments Chesapeake Current article on the HEB Dedication Calvert Recorder article on the HEB Dedication Program from the HEB dedication Treasurer s Report and Financial Issues Joan Winship In the month of February, there were expenses for the Women Of the World event and a balance of $2,494.00. March expenses were awards for the WOW Luncheon and dues were paid to the National Commission for Women. The current balance is $1,864.00. Commissioner Claggett moved to reallocate $32.00 from Leadership to Planning & Recognition. The motion was approved by consensus. See attachment B.
New Commission Member Application Inez Claggett Applicant for Associate Commissioner Diane Bell Why are you interested in joining the Commission for Women? Diane has a passion for women's health and has knowledge on areas that are underserved in Calvert County, specifically opioid addiction. She wants to bring STEM programs to young girls. What is your background with our issues? Diane volunteers with PAX Naval base to encourage young girls interested in STEM. Looking at our purpose, how would you especially like to contribute? (What areas? What projects?) Diane would like to help with the Women s Health Expo and women that struggle with opioid addiction. Applicant for Commissioner Ashley Staples Ashley was not at the meeting, the commission with vote on her at the next meeting. Vote: Commissioner Harvat moved to appoint Diane Bell as Associate Commissioner, Commissioner Hunt seconded the motion. Partnership with Calvert Library Inez Claggett Inspirational African American Women of Calvert County will be held March 28, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. Commissioners Marsh, Hunt, and Jordan volunteered to help with the event and to bring fruit, cookies, and water respectively. See attachment C. Strategic Plan Activity Update Sextortion/Human Trafficking Forum - Joan Winship The Beacon and The Calvert Recorder will be at the event. Health Expo Suzanne Haynes The Health Expo will be held Saturday May 13, 2017 at St. Peter s Parish Hall from 9am to 1pm.
