Welcome to the new term and all it has in store for us. It s a lovely term where we welcome the new and farewell the old (soon to be new again!!) in addition to the many events that we have in Term 4. We welcomed new families yesterday and they appear settled and happy. The Schafer family has returned after two years abroad (welcome Daniel and Patrick). Also joining us are Bella Hatch and Mayher Singh in Year 3 and Vihaan Singla in Year 4 and Divij Singla in Year 1. We hope you all have a lovely term. I know the children have made you very welcome. The OOSH funded COLA was constructed over the holidays. They are all very happy with it as it provides shade and rain shelter for them. Thank you to the OOSH committee and families who assisted with this. PSSA sport moves to the summer time slot this term. Teams will play in the mornings. Good luck to all our teams and thank you to our teachers for your extra time spent training and organising. Our fitness stations have arrived and will be erected over the next few weeks. Our General Assistants are doing the build and we look forward to seeing it very soon! There is a link later in the newsletter for a survey from Mrs Gordon. We would really appreciate 5 minutes of your time to complete it. Thank you to the families who have completed. There will be a further survey as part of the annual school report coming later in the term. P&C have been very busy while I was on LSL and have Trivia Night all planned for 22 nd October. We are looking forward to it. The P&C meeting is also on very soon in week 4 we would love to see some new faces. Please keep an eye on the calendar and Skoolbag for events that will come up quickly this term. The canteen had its first trial yesterday. I think it was fairly quiet but being the first day back it surprised a few. The trial is for 4 weeks so that may alleviate the lack of supplies after the weekend for some. Volunteers are always welcome contact the canteen for more details. Thank you to Mrs Gordon for all her hard work in my absence. She coped very capably, of course. Sadly we farewelled Mrs Thickett for Term 4 as she was seconded to the High Performance Unit. Mrs Kessel has injured her knee and will be away for some time while she recovers. Mrs Savage will work full time for the first two weeks and from week 3 onwards Mr Webber will take the class on Mondays and Tuesdays and Mrs Savage the remainder of the week, for as long as this takes. We wish Veronica a speedy recovery. Planning Ahead Monday, 17 th October Tuesday, 18 th October Wed 19 th & Thurs 20 th Oct Saturday, 22 nd October - Jeans for Genes Day - Trial Canteen - K 6 Assembly (Jazz Band performing) - FOCM Turra4 Reh. & Performance Concourse Chatswood - State Athletics Carnival - Trivia Night 7.30pm in the School Hall (save the date)
Issue 31 Tuesday, 11 th October, 2016 page 2 There is already a large amount of lost property in both K-2 and 3-6. We endeavour to get it back to its owner but I would be most grateful if children were more responsible for ensuring that they collect it each day. This includes many expensive drink containers and lunch boxes. Please name all items with indelible pens as this will assist with returns. Have a great term, Margaret Foott Principal Deputy Principal s Message A reminder to please participate in the Tell them from Me survey. Here is the link again. https://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/qbnz2 It will take you no more than 15 minutes and can be completed on any mobile device. We have over 300 families in our school, to date 114 families have chosen to complete the survey. We really appreciate your input and completing this survey will help our school understand your perspectives on your child s experience at school. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements. The survey will close on 21 October. TPS Jeans for Genes Day is on Monday, 17 th October. Students can wear jeans to school and their sport shirts. Please send a gold coin donation for this worthy cause. We are also participating in the Toys and Tucker Christmas Hamper collection. If you are able to donate Christmas food and gifts, please start sending them in. For food and toys donation ideas go to: http://toysntucker.org.au/ Kind regards, Jacqui Gordon GUMBOOT GARDEN Kindergarten needs your old gumboots. Country Band Tour to Port Stephens Performance band with support from members of Senior band Welcome to term 4! As you can see from the calendar above, we have a VERY busy term coming up with regard to performances. Please ensure you make a note of the events your band will be involved in. If, as you write them on your calendar, you find you have a clash and will be unable to attend a performance, let both your band manager AND Mr Rowland know now. (With timely advice, instrument parts or pieces can be adjusted). Your assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated. Please note the change in date for the Intermediate band performance in assembly from the 17 th to the 31 st October. This is because all stage 2 students will be participating in a Billy Cart incursion that day and are unlikely to be in assembly. Band CD Cover competition We had a HUGE number of entries for the competition which was very pleasing. Due to the layout that Mr Swan had envisioned, and after much consideration of colour and proportion, it was decided to only choose one design. With pleasure we announce the winner as BETHANY TATE from 3/4T. Bethany s design will be placed on the front cover of the CD. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to e-mail our Band Director, Mr Rowland at tpsbands@outlook.com, or either of your Band Coordinators Kathryn Aubourg bdaubourg@bigpond.com or Liz Maund at elizian4@gmail.com
Issue 31 Tuesday, 11 th October, 2016 page 7 TENNIS AT T.P.S TERM 4 VACANCIES Hi all, just a note to let people know which groups may have room for a few extra students. If you are around Year 1 there will probably be space on Mondays 4pm and Wednesday 8.15am. If you are around Year 5 then Tuesday 4.30pm and possibly Thursday 8.15am may have a few spots. Monday 4.30pm is now unused, so a brand new group of up to 5 students could be formed there if any parents would like to create one. As with all groups, students need to be of same or similar age. A reminder to all current tennis parents that I will need their assistance in giving plenty of notice if your child is unable to continue due to other activities next Term. The 2 nd lesson of Term for each group is the closing date for changes. Please give me a call on 0431-200-480 or email tennistutor@live.com.au if you want further details Regards Mark TAG & SNAG SUMMER 2016 Boys and girls are invited to join us for this free flowing, non-contact game suitable for all ages and abilities.
