The purpose of the survey is to establish the level of fees for a full architectural service being charged by Practices for a large range of building types. The survey will be a postal survey with a questionnaire to be completed and returned by the Practice to Millward Brown IMS. It is vitally important that Practices participate fully in the survey and that the information returned is correct.
The results of the survey will then be an historic record of Architect's fees and charges to be used as a reference by Members in negotiations with clients and also as consumer information. As the Competition Authority has stated its policy of the RIAI being prevented from publishing fee information, this will be the only information source available. The President will very shortly write to all RIAI Practices on this matter urging their cooperation. Recruitment Agency using RIAI Logo We have been advised that a Recruitment Agency is using the RIAI name and logo to contact RIAI members. It should be noted that the RIAI has no involvement whatsoever with any recruitment agencies. If you are contacted, please let us know. Carbon taxes are to be introduced by the DoEHLG by the end of 2004 and the EU Energy Performance Directive must be transposed into Irish law by 4 January 2006. The Directive will require all buildings for sale or rent to have an 'Energy Performance Certificate' and the saleability of a building will be affected by its energy rating.
New-Build and Refurbishment projects now on the drawing board should be aiming to achieve the best possible performance ratings. How is the architect to respond to this, and to increasing public and political awareness of other aspects of sustainability that affect people's lives? The RIAI and the Energy Research Group UCD have developed this two-day Seminar to provide effective and realistic strategies that can be integrated into architectural design and practice procedures and deliver genuinely sustainable buildings. "The first Super E homes were opened in Sandymount, Dublin 4 recently by builders Atlantic Canada Home Ireland. The Super E house program, a Government of Canada initiative, provides Irish home builders with the tools they need to sell timber-frame housing that is energy efficient, environmentally responsible, economical and that enhances the homeowner's quality of life. Recent changes to Irish building regulations have led to stringent energy efficient standards which are becoming more difficult to meet with traditional brick construction. These changes have increased the need for quality timber and energy efficient product and building systems. Super E timber frame homes all meet or exceed the new building regulations.
